Today we’d like to introduce you to Jillian Myers
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I graduated high school early with intentions to jump right into the beauty industry- and that I did!
I started Esthetician school at 17, graduated at 18, and jumped right into specializing in lash extensions. A year later I took my first permanent makeup course and the rest is history.
A traditional salon environment didn’t fit my vision, so in the beginning of 2022 I made the leap to work for myself. Failure wasn’t an option for me, so I went all in and am still growing my business to this day.
Even though I have since moved out of STL (currently living in the Cape Girardeau area), I love the city and my clients so much that I still make the commute 3x a week.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
When I first started my own business, I was a mobile lash artist- meaning I drove allllll over the greater stl area (as far south as st Genevieve, as far east as Edwardsville, IL, and as far North as the Grove.)
A few months into this, I was in a head-on collision on my way home from a clients house. I injured my back and tore my hip flexor so it was hard for me to carry my equipment up stairs and into clients houses. That’s when I started renting a space from Ashley at Natural Ashthetic.
Ashley and I had a mutual friend/client that told Ashley about my business and situation. I had also been referring all my brow clients to her as I couldn’t do brows in a mobile setting. She reached out to me to offer a place to work, and has since become an amazing mentor to me, a best friend, and now my maid of honor.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I do lash extensions and permanent makeup. I specialize in a more natural look than most artists in my field, my main styles being nano brows and angel lash sets. I prefer to enhance someone’s natural beauty, not work against it.
What im proud of that sets me apart for others? I value my relationships with my clients more than I value the money.
So many people get into the beauty industry because there’s people selling this image of “make 6 figures as a PMU artist/lash artist” and some surely do.
But I have lowered my prices (despite my cost of products increasing) to make sure in this economy, people don’t have to give up what makes them feel good.
The beauty industry is such an intimate industry. I truly consider my clients some of my best friends. I have been with them through their highs and lows in life, been a shoulder to cry on, and someone to celebrate with. And they have been that for me as well. I wouldn’t give that up for the world.
Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
Never forget that your clients are the reason you are where you are, and always make sure they know that. Value them as people.
