Today we’d like to introduce you to Kevin Mcclellan.
Hi Kevin, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
I was born and raised in UCity the neighborhood I grew up in was Millar Park(very important for barbershop conversations lol). Around 1989 in grade school is when I found my love for HIP-HOP right around the time Bullet Proof Records was taking off and blowing up shoutout Eric Reedus and D-red one day playing around in they studio I developed my character Mack-10 my partners in crime name was Iron FE and 6ix PaCK we went by the group name NCT ( niggaz causing trouble) of course we wanted to be like NWA or The Ghetto boys thank God for UGK eight ball and MJG Too Short they saved my like I went for the females attention and left the streets alone rebranded myself to K I D (Kevins incredible D!** or keeping income daily) depending on my audience lol it’s all entertainment right lhhh I graduated from UCity high school in 1997. Heman Park is where I spent most of my days after school when I wasn’t being hiphop head I had a love for sports and trash talking some of my favorites sports are football and basketball! However, I got where I am now by paying attention to my home boy Pierre Watson (Poose) big brother Orlando (pretty boy) Watson of Rock house Entertainment and also being apart of @4Uentertainment’s ( Spirit Day) artist development and marketing team After that venture I went on to worked with some of St. Louis hottest promoters like Cash Cohens with Cash N Entertainment also Goose Gates can’t forget the most hated DJ in the region Dj Styles #FwTheDjs Shoutout DjPharoahDinero DjTab DjKmean #SaluteTheDjs #coredjsSTL I worked closely with independent rap artist @LouKang_TBH @imSLAP_BFE @LiLKeesy_SBM @JaiKtchnz the hottest graphic artist in the Midwest @MaineGFX and the super-producer Louchee on Da Beat @basehousebeatsceo (IS IT THE BASEHOUSE!!)
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road hasn’t been smooth at all but when you’re doing what you love it’s not even work or considered failure when you are having fun and passionate about it what your doing challenges are all apart of the process but nobody ever wants to talks about the bumps in the road to success however some of challenges I’ve struggled with are wanting results to happen faster than the money and power I have lol or wishing Stlouis artist stuck together like ATL NY CALI AND KC but I embrace it all challenges are just trials and tribulations with consistency, work ethic, knowledge of the business and a understanding of how marketing and promotion works is vital to a successful entertainment business hopefully I’ll land and A&R job at a major record label or even owning my own entertainment company!!!
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
What I do is stay in my own lane and mind the business that pays me I’m not a nobody I’m just somebody who’s not trying to be anybody however in between time I show love where it’s deserving it’s free to me I personally knows what it feels like when nobody sees or hear your dream so as long as you a consistent dream chaser I’ll support any way possible because it doesn’t cost to show love.
#STLvsEverybody is a hashtag around 2012 I created in hopes of putting huge spotlight on independent artist and entrepreneurs who are indie but major but not limited to just musicians but all entertainers’ creatives influencers athletes’ entrepreneurs and black-owned businesses for free but it would take a lot of organized organic humans to participate I just wanted to create something everybody can participate in to spread awareness on ST LOUIS to the internet world right from m my couch. Right now I don’t have to money to invest but I do have the ideas and brain to change the way St Louis is viewed around the globe in the entertainment aspect so hopefully I can spark a flame in someone who has the funds to invest currently I specialize in public relations certified in marketing and promotion also artist development email or DM me (serious inquiries only)
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
Best thing I like about the city is the food specifically Chinese food (China house on w Florissant!) or the newly black owned restaurant Prime 55 they have two locations Ucity Loop and Downtown check them out ASAP and of course all the musical talent we have in the city (all genres) AYEVERB JU BLACK FLAG TDUBBO BATES STL 3problems Nando STL MAI LEE RAHLI NIKEE TURBO SK just to name a few the world needs to hear them all #upnextSTL search any artist on any platform and what I least like about our city would be fans/consumers not really supporting great independent artist and businesses as they should let’s change the narrative St.Louis only the real not the fake shoutout Adam Murphy over at Midwestmixtapes.com and Program Director (Will Bernel) and Dj Big Juice at 103.7 the beat in Rockford IL they’ve shown me mad love over the years and I truly appreciate it !!
