Check Out Marty Johnson, Jr’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Marty Johnson, Jr.

Hi Marty, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I grew up singing in the church kids choir at Washington Tabernacle M.B.

Church at the age of 6. From there, I began learning how to sing and project my voice. My parents would always get asked to sing at different church events and festivals where I wanted to follow in their footsteps and become a huge singer.

I began writing poetry and songs from middle school up till 2019 when I first recorded my first single “Black Tea”. From there, I have been continuing to learn and perfect my craft, representing St. Louis each and every time I go out and perform.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has not been a smooth road.

I recently lost my Father Marty, Sr. this year, and trying to do what I love in his honor wasn’t really clicking the way it usually would. However, I realized that he is forever with me through this journey and I’m so blessed to have the knowledge and wisdom that he and my mother has given me.

My favorite quote by him is always, “Do what you have to do, so you can do what you want to do “. Love you Pops.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m an R&B artist Jr (Junior), and I’m well known for my craft and style. I’m very old school. Always have been. So I decided to bring back that feel-good music we can all enjoy and sing along to.

I’d say the proudest moment thus far is my support system and my fans. Without them, I don’t know where I’d be in my career and I’m thankful for each and every person that listens to me/follows me on social media.

What sets me apart from others is how I express my messages and emotions through what I love most. Music. Each song that I write comes from the heart with a purpose so that others can relate to the songs I sing about.

I was taught at a young age to be true to myself and who I am. I’ve been granted the opportunity by God to help others through their situations and even provide them with music that makes people want to groove. Best feeling in the world.

Any big plans?
I would love to sign a major label record deal. Not more so for the money or fame, however for the chance to show the entire world that R&B music still exists and that we’re back and better than ever.

To perform in front of a sell-out crowd honestly is going to make me cry. However, it’ll be tears of joy because I can look to the side and see my family and say on stage “Mama, we made it”. From there, I plan to help give back to my city and provide whatever I can to help the community and keep our youth in school and off the streets.

We need our future doctors, lawyers, chemists, etc. to strive and have the best support system they need to achieve their goals.
