Hi Melancholy, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers?
Growing up, I had tried almost every creative outlet there was. I had ADD, and so I bounced around often to satiate that. Over time, I would see that I would grow out of a lot of things but music always stuck with me in the back of my mind.
I never thought of doing it seriously until I stumbled upon an opportunity to open up for another rapper, Troy Ave in San Diego. That’s how I got my start and I’ve been going ever since.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Definitely has been a bumpy road. Finding a sound, learning music production, all of the little things like getting shows and even cover arts and marketing. You got to wear a lot of hats as an independent artist and a lot of people aren’t resourceful enough for that.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Honestly, I just be rapping. I love making music. I love finding new sounds and experimenting with different genres. I wouldn’t say I have a specialty per se, but I’m known for my versatility and “hard” bars and metaphors but also being able to bring the vibes as well.
I’m most proud of the relationships I’ve made along my musical journey and also the level of respect I get from other, seasoned artists.
In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
Hip-hop always changes but it always stays the same as well. I can’t predict what it’s going to do in the coming years, but I can say that I and the rest of VibeTribe will be a part of it.
