Today we’d like to introduce you to Satonya Booker.
Hi Satonya, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I have spent 30 years cultivating, evolving, and advancing my knowledge of just about every aspect of business, beginning with graduating from Saint Louis University with a BSBA in Business Administration. I studied organizational psychology and accounting and eventually added a certification from the Society for Human Resource Management. Recently, I studied Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion through the University of South Florida. I have continued learning throughout my career as I have a thirst for knowledge.
I work with organizations keen on strengthening relationships and their bottom line. I lecture and hold workshops on culture and diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging. Additionally, I help organizations shore up their business, fundraising, marketing, and sales processes. I work closely with managers and organizations that want to growth through consultation, training activities, & absorbing & responding to my constructive criticism.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The ever-changing business landscape requires constant adaptation, so my journey has not been smooth; consequently, I have strengthened my resolve at every turn. This has worked well for me as I have had seven amazing careers. As a conscientious and critical thinker, I can use my knowledge and skills and apply them to new situations. I hit rock bottom in 2018 after our son died. Until then, I felt invincible. I was the head of the government division of an organization breaking national records. But my heart was not in it anymore. I could barely get out of bed. I had become a shell of the person I was before. So, I refocused and started working with the nonprofit sector. Before that, I volunteered, including board work, but 2018 was pivotal. That is when I left the corporate world altogether.
I appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
The name of my consulting firm is Booker and Company. I work with nonprofits and small businesses to improve their culture, organizational practices, our environment, & the community at large, all while improving the bottom line. We’re set apart by our unique approach to creating inclusive work environments, something I’m extremely proud of. My experience in diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives complements our brand’s mission to foster a strong organizational culture. I have been a consultant for 30 years, but I am also currently working for a nonprofit organization called Almost Home as their Director of Development. We offer a program to help unhoused young moms and their families become self-sufficient and create a better future for themselves and their families.
Please talk to us about happiness and what makes you happy.
I love seeing the direct impact of my work and my children’s success. Knowing I have made a meaningful difference in people’s lives and the organizations I touch brings me immense satisfaction.
