Today we’d like to introduce you to Kim Lomax.
Hi Kim, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for sharing your story with us – to start, maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers.
I opened Koffee Ko., LLC on 4/4/2023. I wanted to open this business two years prior but didn’t have enough faith; no location, no guidance, etc. till one day, a spot became available by my other business, and I knew this was it; it was time, and I took a leap of faith, and here I am.
Can you talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned? Looking back, has it been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It was not smooth sailing because I didn’t have patience. So once I found the location and the contractors, I wanted this project to turn around ASAP, and it didn’t do that; I thought it would take 3 months, and it took 6 months, but after that, with a few bumps here and there, the birth of my new baby became my new reality.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Here at Koffee Ko., I think of us as “Cheers” where everyone knows your name. When you come into Koffee Ko., you are greeted warmly: “Welcome to Koffee Ko.” We have a loyalty program where your 11th drink is on us, daily specials, merchandise, and gift cards we offer our customers. I’m big on customer service and learning our customer’s names, especially if they come in enough. There is no reason why we don’t know them by name; we offer a birthday club coupon for $5 off, Koffee Ko. It is more than a coffee shop we are so much bigger than Koffee and we sale more than just Koffee, we like to engage with the community, we have had”Muffins with Mom, Donuts with Dad, Breast Cancer Awareness event, Book signings, and we sale decaf Koffee. We offer free copies, scans, and faxes; you can set up and work in a nice environment. We allow our customers to hold meetings whenever we’re open free of charge. I hope to one day be able to franchise the brand, as long as our customers are happy.
Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
I would honestly say take your time and learn the business yourself, because it’s only so much a mentor can help you with, but it is better coming to the table knowing something rather than not knowing anything and let your mentor help you with what you may need help with after you have learned it yourself.
