Community Highlights: Meet Lindsey Been of Bean

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lindsey Been

Hi Lindsey, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Bean started from my own personal struggle. A few years ago, I was in a season of life where I felt like I had lost my sense of self. I was juggling a busy schedule, and shopping for clothes felt frustrating—everything was either too trendy and impractical or didn’t fit quite right. I wanted pieces that fit my lifestyle as a Midwest woman, something between fast fashion and high-end boutiques.

That’s when it hit me: if I was feeling this way, I knew other women had to be feeling it too. I realized there was a gap for women—especially busy moms and young professionals—who needed a place to find clothing that felt casually chic but also made sense for real life. Clothes that were trendy but wearable; affordable but high-quality. So, I set out to create a boutique that did just that.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I don’t think any entrepreneurial journey is entirely smooth, and mine has been no exception! One of the biggest challenges has been finding the right balance between curating pieces that are both trendy and practical while keeping them affordable for my customers. I want every item at Bean to feel special, yet something you can easily incorporate into your everyday wardrobe.

Another struggle has been managing all the different aspects of the business— sourcing products, marketing, order fulfillment— all while balancing my personal life and a daytime job. There were definitely moments of doubt and overwhelm, but every challenge has taught me something valuable. It’s those tough moments that have made Bean what it is today—a brand that’s authentic, relatable, and truly cares about its community.

Each hurdle has pushed me to be more creative and more intentional about the direction I want to take Bean. And seeing the positive impact on my customers makes all the bumps in the road worthwhile.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Bean is all about helping Midwest women feel their best—whether that’s through the perfect everyday look or a statement piece that brings confidence to the forefront. We specialize in curating high-quality, affordable clothing that seamlessly fits into the busy lives of our customers. Whether you’re running errands, working full-time, or chasing after little ones, we offer clothing that’s versatile enough for all the moments that make up a woman’s day.

What sets us apart is our focus on real life. Bean isn’t about a “one-size-fits-all” approach; it’s about understanding the unique needs of women juggling multiple roles. Our collections are designed for versatility and comfort, while maintaining the perfect balance between trendy and timeless.

What I’m most proud of is how far we’ve come in building a brand that’s relatable and genuinely invested in its customers. At Bean, we want every woman to feel like she’s getting the best of both worlds: something that makes her look and feel good—without breaking the bank.

At the end of the day, Bean is more than just a boutique. It’s a space where women feel supported, inspired, and empowered to embrace who they are, every single day. Whether you’re updating your wardrobe or just looking for that perfect go-to piece, we’ve got you covered.

Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
The most important lesson I’ve learned is that building a business is a marathon, not a sprint. There have been moments when I wanted things to happen faster—whether it was growing the customer base or perfecting our collections—but I’ve learned to trust the process and take it one step at a time. Patience and persistence are key.

I’ve also learned the importance of staying true to the heart of the brand. It’s easy to get caught up in trends or external pressures, but I’ve realized that authenticity and a genuine connection with customers are what really make a brand stand out. When I stay grounded in why I started Bean in the first place—helping women feel their best—everything else falls into place.

It’s a constant reminder that success doesn’t happen overnight, but with passion, dedication, and the right mindset, you’ll get to where you want to be.
