Conversations with Alex Jordan

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alex Jordan.

Hi Alex, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I have always had a love of fashion, textiles, and design. I attended Baylor University in Waco, Texas and after graduating college with a Fashion Merchandising degree I came home to St. Louis and began working in the footwear industry. I worked for an incredible local company that specializes in wholesale and manufacturing women’s shoes. It gave me amazing work experience along with the opportunity to travel to places like New York City and China.

After a few years with this company, I was offered a chance to own and operate the St. Louis franchise of a nationally known professional organizing brand. Being a very Type-A person, this job was right up my alley and allowed me the chance to dip my toes into the entrepreneurial world for the first time. I was still able to use my love of design but in a whole new way by organizing products and creating functional and beautiful systems in my clients’ homes.

The year 2017 proved to be a very difficult one for me personally, as my husband and I were desperately trying to start a family and in the midst of loss and heartbreak, I felt a pull to start a blog. Initially, my blog was solely fashion-focused and chronicled my admiration for that industry with lots of outfit try-ons and shopping posts. Flash forward four years and I am now a proud mother to two little ones (a 2.5 years old daughter and four months old son) and my brand has drastically shifted.

Today, you will find me sharing about motherhood, our home-building process, hosting, and our adventures as a family. My passion and hope is to inspire young women and young families to have fun and confidence in opening up your home to others while sharing some of my favorite affordable finds, organizing tips, and mom life.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Getting into the blogger/content creator space was a foreign concept and industry to me. I am 100% self-taught and have spent the last four years learning everything I can about website creation, social media, marketing, working with brands, and so much more. The learning curve was huge but it’s also been really fun to learn for myself and figure things out along the way. I think it’s made my content and my growth very organic and authentic.

One hard part of this industry is dealing with comparison and finding a supportive system of other creators who aren’t bogged down by competition. I have done my best to stay true to who I am, the things I like, and grow organically. It hasn’t always been easy taking that road but I’m proud that my audience recognizes my authenticity and honesty.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Alex Maire Jordan shares the daily life and adventures of me, Alex, and my family. I offer a peek into our every day as we host, create, cook, parent, and cultivate a warm and inviting home. Our family mantra is “always an adventure” and we love showing real-life moments like our family dance parties, happy hours, and pancake Saturdays. Our hope is to inspire other families to have fun, try new things, and make memories together.

I am proud of the online community I have grown over the last four years by taking an honest and authentic approach. I’m very picky about the branded content I do and if I’m sharing something on my blog or social media, my audience knows they can trust me. I love my readers and followers and enjoy nothing more than having meaningful interactions with them on a daily basis. If I can inspire and encourage the women around me, I feel like I’m doing my job well.

Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
