Today we’d like to introduce you to Chelsey Logan.
Hi Chelsey, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
About 7 years ago, I was gifted my first professional camera for Christmas. I was so excited & a little overwhelmed at where to go to learn how to use it properly. I knew I loved capturing memories & meeting new people & so this “job” never really felt like one.
Through a few mentors, many Facebook groups, and lots of research, I learned how to confidently use my camera. From there, I began to develop my style, learn what I do/don’t like, step outside of the box, and continue to educate & learn ways to capture memories even better. I am happiest with a camera in my hand.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
There have definitely been struggles – mostly myself getting in my own way. Imposter syndrome is something that’s snuck in many times. Feeling not good enough or comparing yourself can make you want to quit. 2019 was when I went full-time as a photographer and then 2020 was almost the year I quit entirely.
Thankfully, I couldn’t give up doing something I loved this much. I really pushed myself this year & couldn’t be happier with how 2021 went.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
My favorite part of being a photographer is the relationships I build & the people I get to meet. There are several families I am so happy to see yearly or even multiple times a year for portrait sessions or at a wedding, they referred me to photograph. The biggest compliment I get from past clients is when they tell me how comfortable I made them feel and how they see me as a friend.
Getting to capture some of the most intimate & special moments of your life is something I am so thankful to be a part of. I mostly photograph weddings and families, but I also photograph boudoir sessions. Nothing is better than hearing from a boudoir client how much a session has increased their confidence.
Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
My advice is to practice, practice, practice. Mostly everything I learned is through trial & error & I think there is no better way to learn than to go out & do it! Also, don’t compare yourself too hard against others! Finding styles & photographers whose work you admire is great for inspiration, but make sure your style is being shown in your work as well!
