Today we’d like to introduce you to John Henry
Hi John, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I wrote songs as soon as I learned to play one chord on the guitar. Never wanted to be a guitar hero, was always always into songs. Played a few shows in grade school and I liked how it felt to perform my songs in front of people. I started playing with friends and we formed a high school band called the Big O and was a great time. Loved it. I wrote a lot of the tunes and became the frontman so to speak. I would settle a lot of the shows and learned how to advance shows, etc.. I knew I wanted to be in music for my life and the playing, writing and business side all came to form a unique experience that helps me today.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It wasn’t always a smooth road, but I’ve been lucky to be surrounded by good people at all stages of my career. I don’t talk to them all today, but we had some great times and some important times that provided a lot of experience. There is no real path for success for a life in music. All you know is that if you quit, you know nothing happens. I think a lot of life now is so instantaneous and getting good at playing, writing, performing, managing takes time and the biggest lessons are in the failures a lot of the times.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a working singer songwriter band leader promoter festival producer trying to make it happen in 2025. To still be independent and active in 2025 is what I am the most proud of. The future is looking up.
Who else deserves credit in your story?
I have been really lucky. My parents and family are and have always been incredibly supportive. My wife is everything and I could never have done any of this without her support and love. I have a great band made up of great humans and have had been lucky with great bandmates over the years. And we have a great Open Highway team who care deeply about what we are trying to do. I’ve been really lucky.
