Conversations with Johnny Wayne

Today we’d like to introduce you to Johnny Wayne.

Hi Johnny, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I began writing music my senior year of high school and have been developing my brand ever since. It all started with a group of friends in 2008. We developed several hundred tracks together and performed at various well known St. Louis venues. In 2015, I decided to move on from the group and cultivate my career as a solo artist. At this time, I started #FreeTrackFriday. Over the course of a year, I released 39 tracks for free on both Sound Cloud and Youtube.

Soon after, I moved to Orlando, FL, where I wrote my debut album, Fresh Start. I was inspired by the much healthier, positive lifestyle that Florida opened up for me. Moving away from my hometown and stepping out of my comfort zone was the best decision I have ever made. I figured out exactly who I am and what I want to be, which ultimately enhances the authenticity of my music.

Now back in St. Louis, I am continuing to perfect my craft as a music artist and enhancing the quality of my music, which I record and mix myself, in my home studio (Johnny Wayne Studios). I have strong connections in the St. Louis community and have worked with several well-known artists and producers.

Recently, I have been performing around the St. Louis Metropolitan area and beyond, including Lake of the Ozark’s, where my music seems to fit in very well. I would consider my style upbeat/fun/dance/”summervibes”, perfect for a pool party! Not shy to donate my time, I have helped raise money by performing at several well-known charity events, “F&H Adult Prom” for Gods Grace Animal Rescue, “Superstars N’ Supercars” and “Music & Miracles”. I also create theme songs for thriving businesses. My favorite, “Hemp CBD Superstore Theme Song”, has been drawing a lot of attention.

On top of all the gigs and studio sessions, I started my own clothing line. You can purchase Johnny Wayne Merchandise at any of my shows or from the online store on my website, johnnywayne.com.

I have taken tremendous strides over the past couple years, but my journey has only just begun.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
My music journey has definitely had its up and downs. I have a solid fan base in my hometown, St. Louis, but moving to Florida, where I didn’t know anybody was a struggle. You really have to put yourself out there and get uncomfortable to gain new followers and get people to support you. When your dreams are as big as mine, not everybody will take you seriously. There are a lot of talented artists out there, so you have to consistently find new ways to make yourself stand out from the crowd in an oversaturated industry.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a multifaceted artist, songwriter, producer and performer, who has dedicated my life to perfecting my craft. What sets me apart is that my music can’t be categorized into a specific genre. It is a unique blend of rap, pop, and hip-hop. I am most proud of my ability to overcome adversity over the years. Despite many challenges and negativity, I keep my eyes on the prize and I refuse to give up.

Can you share something surprising about yourself?
Not only do I have over a decade of experience under my belt, but I have a Bachelor’s degree from Webster University, in Audio/Video Production. Having the skills to create my own music from start to finish definitely gives me a leg up in this industry. I have a professional recording studio in my own home, which allows me to work whenever I am feeling the most creative.
