Conversations with Luke & Morgan Dierker

Today we’d like to introduce you to Luke & Morgan Dierker.

Hi Luke & Morgan, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
We met in 2014 on Tinder.

We swiped right on one another and initially met up to play music together. Morgan made a somewhat questionable decision to follow me back to my apartment despite having never met me in person – which I wouldn’t necessarily recommend, but it luckily worked out for us – we sang together and realized immediately that we had incredible vocal chemistry.

We played our first show together the following week and began writing together weekly. After several months of writing and shows, we eventually started dating. Two years later, we got married and began touring across the country in our RV. We kept a busy touring schedule until Covid ground everything to a halt.

Since we started playing shows again, we’ve focused more on playing shows in the midwest and really growing in this region.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
It’s been a bit of both. Any time that you’re pursuing a career in something you’re passionate about, whether it’s music or medicine or starting a business, there are going to be challenged. It’s part of the process. I think the biggest struggle from a personal standpoint is staying engaged and encouraged when any number of setbacks come along.

It really helps that we get to go through it all together. We put a lot of work in and, at times, it keeps us from spending as much time as we’d like with friends and family, but we’re good at keeping each other focused and positive. The biggest struggle from an industry standpoint is trying to break through the noise.

There is just so much music being released right now that it makes it harder to find your audience or for your audience to find you. It’s ultimately a great problem for consumers, but it does demand creativity in every aspect of your music, from the songs to your social media, to the timing of your releases and marketing.

All of that is definitely a challenge, but we try to have fun with each part of it and we learn more every day.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
We’re Luke and Morgan Dierker and together we make up the folk-pop duo Of Sea and Stone. We’re a touring band known for distinct vocal harmonies, thoughtful songwriting, and engaging live performances. We released our song “I Love You, Goodbye” back in 2019 and that single continues to be our most-streamed song.

I Love You, Goodbye is one of the most vulnerable songs we’ve written and it really means a lot to us that so many people have connected with it and still fall in love with it each day. We’ve also built a busy touring schedule that we’re really proud of. We tour across the U.S. together to share our songs and stories with as many as we can.

Having said that, we’re most proud of all the relationships we have been able to build through our music and touring. We’ve met so many amazing people over the years, and we do our best to make sure that everyone we come in contact with leaves with a smile on their face, feeling lighter than they did before.

We’re in the people business, ultimately, and that’s the best part about it.

So, before we go, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you? How can they support you?
