Conversations with Nataura Hemphill

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nataura Hemphill

Hi Nataura, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I started doing makeup a few years ago, but really start taking it serious during Covid. I started off doing my face only. My family and friends then started saying “oh girl you’re gonna do my makeup.” Shortly after I turned my passion into profit.
I was inspired to start my own cosmetic line mainly by social media. But also I wanted to be a one stop shop; offer makeup services as well as products.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not been a smooth road. There are times where business is great and thriving! There are times where I question am I supposed to be doing this?
As hard as it is to admit, the biggest struggle for me is self doubt and comparison. I often get comfortable in a routine and the unexpected scares me. I tend to work for others more than myself and instead of pouring into my own business. That hurts me in the end.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
In addition to doing makeup, I also work a corporate job as a contract management specialist at an Agricultural company. I negotiate and manage contracts.
I would say that I am known for my style. I bring “me” into everything that I do. Whether that be a makeup artist or contract management specialist. People know me for my style and I’ve been told my “aura”. That makes me proud and sets me apart from others!

Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs or other resources you think our readers should check out?
I used to love reading urban fiction! Now I stick to audiobooks. If I’m honest, I can’t stand listening to self help books and so forth. I hardly believe anything people say on podcasts. But my favorite books are “Your Blues ain’t like mine” by Bebe Moore Campbell and “The Coldest Winter ever” by Sista Souljah. The Coldest Winter ever was the first book I read which turned me on to reading so I gotta pay homage!
I watch YouTube reaction channels for entertaining and makeup videos for learning/entertainment.
