Conversations with Nicholas Kientzy

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nicholas Kientzy

Nicholas, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Back when I was 12 one of my uncles on my dads side got me a little Spider-Man camera. At the next holiday my other Uncle saw me taking pictures with it, he owned a pawn shop at the time. The following holiday, the second uncle got me a Canon Rebel XS. From there, one of my parents’ friends saw me with my camera and asked if I could be a mock photo booth at their upcoming wedding. I did it and made my first $100. The following year one of their other friends was getting married and I did a mock photo booth for that one as well. Over the next few years I started to get better at photography Landing some pictures in calendars and magazines. my junior year of high school my parents bought me the Canon t6i. At the time this was a major upgrade because this camera shoots video. around my junior to senior year of high school I was making a lot of YouTube videos about our farm from my phone. These are becoming hugely popular in the town. Once I graduated high school I went to Missouri State University for communications and mass media. while away at college I got really into filmmaking. One of the people who knows my parents’ friends who hired me for the photo booth asked if I do wedding videos. I said I’ve never shot one before but I would love to try, they did not have very high expectations but just wanted something. if you asked me that was one of my worst videos I ever shot, but if you ask them it is the coolest video they’ve ever seen. I shot that video on my Canon t6i and a small camcorder but I rented from the college I went to. Skip ahead 4 years. I now have dozens of weddings under my belt, I have state-of-the-art technology, the same cameras used to shoot the 80 million dollar production the Creator. My fiancé helps and supports me the entire way. I take pride in my work and treat each client with a customized experience to help their big day fly by stress-free. I truly love what I do, and being able to be a part of these couples’ big day is so special to me. Today my company “Kientzy Media” is growing each year.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The hardest part was catching up on the gear side. My gear was always underwhelming compared to the industry standard. Besides that, lots of research and lots of preparation helped me keep mistakes to a minimum. I’m a very prepared person, but you can’t really prepare better gear. I worked and worked to upgrade my gear over the last 5 years. I can finally say I’m at a good point in my career or my cameras are now above industry standard.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I specialize in wedding videography, capturing couples’ big day through lens. People say a photo is worth a thousand words but I say a video is worth a million. The thing that sets me apart from the competition is my affordability and relatability. I make sure that when it comes to your wedding day I have all the information I need ahead of time. I want to be in the background, I don’t want to be a stress inducing part of your day. At my current age of 26 A lot of people are getting married, it’s easy to relate to a lot of the brides and grooms nowadays because they are at my age. I like to help lead brides and grooms down a path of success for their wedding.

Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
Over the next 5-10 years I hope that my business nearly doubles in size. I hope to be booking 30 to 40 weddings a year. Potentially I would like to hire a full-time second shooter, maybe even a team if demand grows that high.
