Today we’d like to introduce you to Paige Butler.
Hi Paige, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I started doing photography when I was 16.
My mom was a wedding photographer, and I would help assist her at weddings when I was a teenager. I was diagnosed with an anxiety disorder at a young age, and I quickly realized that photography was a creative outlet that acted as a form of therapy for me.
I started doing it more than just as a hobby at 18. I’ve had several different jobs, but I’ve never quit photography. It’s been a constant in my life for 14 years.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It hasn’t always been a smooth road.
Getting your name out there is hard, especially when you’re young and broke, and desperately needing the bookings. I also tend to compare myself to others and become my own worst critique.
So, that’s been something I constantly battle with, even this many years in.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’ve done pretty much every type of photography out there. From, weddings, to family, to senior portraits, to infants. But, over the last few years, I’ve found my passions, and main interests, and have become more confident in my art.
I love to do high fashion, horror/fantasy, and performance photography. I’m proud of a lot of my work. I always think about shooting a concert with a vocalist, Avi Kaplan, and having him use my shots for his official social media pages. I think what sets me apart, is my themed group shoots.
I’ve done things like “Alice in Wonderland”, “Wizard of Oz”, Steampunk Circus, etc. I’m planning a “Beauty and the Beast” shoot right now.
Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
If you have a love for photography, especially in a certain genre, pursue it like crazy. Don’t let anyone stop you. Don’t be pressured by industry bullies, and don’t give up your passion if it doesn’t take off right away. You have a dream for a reason.
