Today we’d like to introduce you to Brian Owens.
Hi Brian, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Music and performing one day, and I haven’t looked back. I was born in raised in the metro-east part of Southern Illinois. My earliest and most profound experiences with music came from both church and the collective influences of my two older brothers, who exposed me to every genre under the sun. I was involved in music and sports during my teen years, but basketball was my first love. Then, during my junior year began performing professionally as part of a gospel group and in party bands. The experiences that I had in my early to mid-’20s shaped the direction I have found, from performing at theme parks like Bush Gardens and Silver City to joining the military band and becoming a frontman singing every genre of top 40, to being mentored by Dianne Reeves and performing at Carnegie Hall.
You wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been smooth?
It has been a challenging road. But, that said, the strength I have gained because of my faith and God’s love and favor has allowed me to appreciate the opportunities I am privileged to be a part of today.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Ten years ago, if you would’ve asked me what I did, I would’ve said I’m an American soul artist. But the more I got into facilitating community development through music and the arts and film, it started to shift,” says Owens. “I mean, I could come up with all these cute little ways of putting words together, like ‘I’m a creatorpreneur,’ or, ‘I’m an artrepreneur,’ but I think I’m just like a facilitator; that’s really what I do, I facilitate. And I tell people I enable nouns: People, places, and things.
