Daily Inspiration: Meet Davion Henry

Today we’d like to introduce you to Davion Henry

Hi Davion, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
In my early years, I gravitated towards art. It’s been the thing that has helped me from childhood and it continues to be something I can’t live without. Inspired by cartoons/anime, I started drawing when I was a kid; just doodles and sketches whenever I had the time to. I got lost in it admittedly, partially due to my speech impediment; it was a way for me to express myself without having to actually speak. Rallying myself behind art using most mediums (music, painting, charcoal, fashion) to get a better sense of self. I love the freedom of creativity and all that it’s helped me with. I continue to use it as a conduit so I can share my story.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I didn’t grow up having a lot so It hasn’t been the easiest journey. I’ve taken breaks from creating because of not being financially stable. I also used to get made fun of because of my speech impediment: which has made me apprehensive and reluctant at times. I feel as though I’ve missed out on some cool opportunities due to fear.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I have mainly two mediums that I’m using right now: music and charcoal. When creating through physical mediums I try to draw inspiration from personal life, fantasy, contemporary and modern artists. With music I’ve always been interested in genre fusion; really gravitating towards the music my mama and other family members played while I was growing up. I think people who’ve seen my art would say it’s non-traditional or “whacky”. I’m most proud in the thought of knowing I can always get better at my craft. I think what sets me apart is the fact that I love trying new stuff out creatively and I care about the history. I don’t want to really stick to one style.

How do you think about luck?
Idk. I’m not so sure, I don’t feel like a lucky or unlucky person. I had some pretty cool opportunities. I think good things come to those who are patient and have a positive outlook. Maybe this year I’ll be more lucky.
