Today we’d like to introduce you to George Sirois.
Hi George, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I am the author of the international bestselling young adult / science-fiction novel Excelsior, its two sequels, and the five-part science-fiction / sports serial From Parts Unknown. I am also an audiobook narrator, lending my voice to books of all genres. I served as President of the Missouri Writers Guild from 2017-2018 and am the host and producer of the podcasts Excelsior Journeys and From Duck Till Dark: Outside the Marvel Studios. Excelsior is a story that goes back over 30 years. The main character was created in the summer of 1992 while watching the John Boorman 1981 film Excalibur. I continued to work with him for over 15 years until I started an official novel for the character in 2008. The story focuses on a young man named Matthew Peters, who has spent the past 7 years writing and drawing a webcomic about a savior of a faraway planet named Excelsior. He is visited by a beautiful older woman who tells him these comics came from Excelsior’s memories, and Matthew is next in line to become him. Excelsior and its sequel, Ever Upward: Part Two in The Excelsior Journey, are finding a new home—more details to follow. Between writing the first and second Excelsior books, I fully realized a story in my head since 1995. This story started as a video game outline in 1998, then the treatment to a screenplay, then 10 drafts of the screenplay itself, then a short 2002 novel, and then finally a five-part serial showcasing the last remaining sport in America: The Gladiatorial Combat League (GCL). Its current version won a five-star reward from ReadersFavorite.com.
I have been a New Yorker since birth, with my wife and daughter in St. Louis, Missouri. In 2016, I became an audiobook narrator by narrating the 2nd edition of Excelsior for Rocking Horse Publishing. I’ve narrated over a dozen more books by several independent authors. In 2018, I became a solo podcaster with Excelsior Journeys after being part of the Write Pack Radio podcast. This weekly show highlights up-and-coming and established creatives and provides them a platform to share their journey to success. The show is nearing its 200th episode. It has become one of several shows that will make up the upcoming Once Upon a Podcast Network, a collection of creative-centric shows focused on inspiring, motivating, educating, celebrating, and rejuvenating creatives. In addition to Excelsior Journeys, I created a second podcast in 2021 – From Duck Till Dark: Outside the Marvel Studios – that celebrates all Marvel movies that aren’t part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Alright, let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what challenges have you had to overcome?
Any obstacles I deal with all come back to me. When I’m not trying to convince myself that I can’t succeed or have no business doing what I love to do, I’m taking on one project after another, so I have such a full plate that I have no time to listen to the self-doubt & imposter syndrome.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
