Today we’d like to introduce you to Hannah Bailey.
Hi Hannah, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I started Hannah Bailey Photography back in the summer of 2017, right after I got married. I have always been a people person, still working my way through college, and wanted to have some kind of creative outlet from my day-to-day life.
My husband bought me my first camera as I started to shoot close friends and family, and slowly build up a portfolio. Owning my own business seemed like a super daunting feat for a then 21-year-old, but once people started to reach out for bookings (let alone weddings) I started to gain confidence in my abilities to do so.
I am completely self-taught, and absolutely love to help other photographers achieve success as well. Over the years, I have learned how to use different cameras, lenses, programs, editing software, and so much more which have brought me to where I am today.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
For the most part, yes. I have been blessed with some of the most amazing clients- some that come back to me multiple times a year! Watching families grow, relationships progress, and major milestones hit has been the best part of this journey.
Naturally, I feel like any photographer deals with “imposter syndrome” or not feeling good enough in such a cut-throat and competitive industry. I’ve learned the best thing you can do is create community over competition, and with that mindset, I have created some of the most genuine relationships with individuals in the field.
I only find myself inspired by other people’s work, and hope that they, too, feel inspired by mine.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a wedding + lifestyle photographer based in Washington, Missouri. I am most known for weddings, family, and in-home newborn lifestyle photography. Over the past 5 years, I have grown this business into a full-time job for myself, allowing me to fill my calendar, work from home, and have the flexibility of creating my own schedule.
In October of 2020, the demand was so high that I was confident enough to take the leap of faith and take HBP full-time. That was the best decision ever! I am so proud with how far I have brought this business over the years. Success does not happen overnight, and it takes diligence, persistence, and patience.
I’ve had a lot of people tell me they love the colors that I bring out in my photography, editing, and social feeds. I am so proud of the progress I’ve made with not only my photography and editing but the fact that I’ve built this business from nothing to something amazing all on my own. Another passion of mine is helping other photographers do that, too! I am an open book and only love to see others achieve success as well.
