Today we’d like to introduce you to Jerel Canty
Hi Jerel, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My name is Jerel Canty, and I am an artist, photographer and videographer based in the Greater St. Louis area (Missouri & Illinois). Ever since I was a young child, taking family trips, my parents would give me a Polaroid camera to take photos with on our adventures. Through grade school and high school, my passion for art continued to grow into other mediums. When I finally had gotten to college, it was necessary to continue the growth of my creative roots, especially with getting back into photography. I had graduated from Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville with a degree in Studio Art, with the main emphasis in photography in 2013. As time went on, my obsession with photography continues to grow, eventually evolving into making more cinematic presentations for video creation. With my photography and videography, I give visual displays of narratives that aesthetically capture moments and places in time that will intrigue viewers. The main purpose of my artwork is to provide great sparks of imagination while offering phenomenal services to people around the world that helps them and also the people they service to live great lives and carry the essence of generosity.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I believe anything that is worth achieving, it is necessary to embrace the obstacles and challenges that come along the way. Within this comes growth and maturity, not only in the craft and industry of photography and videography, but in all aspects of life. Day in and day out requires high levels of purpose to be put into action. For example, challenges that I have experienced include misunderstanding some editing software, growing my business, entering in shows and connecting with the right people in networking. All of these provide lessons of observation and opportunities to grab hold of and attach yourself to. In my case, where in the industry a lot happens fast, it is necessary to pay attention to and strike while the iron is at the opportune moments.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Through my business, I mainly provide specific photo and video services for personal branding, marketing and advertising purposes. I also sell photographic prints, books and puzzles through my website www.jerelcanty.com. The opportunities I help in with clients is to activate my aesthetic perception of strategy within their branding displaying their professional presence.
My work is most known for capturing architectural landscapes and dynamic portraiture. Within my craft, my technique is to find the great and bountiful essence of the subjects I see and people I work with.
The work I am most proud of is a continual series I constantly work on which is based off the idea of “I am inspired by the lack of inspiration that surrounds me,” while growing up in the East St. Louis, Illinois area. From this mindset, I see everything possible that can be achieved with thinking and learning about life outside of peril environments and situations. By sharing this narrative and experience, my art will help and inspire others that come from where I am from and places that are similar worldwide accomplish more in life, as is it part of my purpose.
What is unique about my work and brand is that all that I show, brings in the viewer to imagine being there in the visual. It also provides insight of my perspective by embracing the subjects that are close and showing appreciation.
Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs or other resources you think our readers should check out?
The apps that help with my business are all the main social media apps, such as: Instagram, Meta (Facebook), Youtube, Threads, Snapchat, Vero, etc. These help with making my artwork reach out to a worldwide audience.
Books such as: How To Win Friends and Influence People by Dale Carnegie, The 50th Law by 50 Cent and Robert Greene and The Psychology Of Money by Morgan Housel are just a few books that have helped me create an intuitive thought process in my overall growth, building connections with people, becoming fearless, going for what I want in my life and understanding business and finance.
