Today we’d like to introduce you to Morgan Casey.
Hi Morgan, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Hey Voyage STL! Thanks for inviting me in to share my story. In 2013, I was a new mother dealing with postpartum depression and struggling with being my true self. I started creating small events because it gave me a chance to escape. In March 2016, I had my first viral event titled “Idream Ent Adult Easter Egg Hunt.” The event was truly spare of the moment. I saw a similar event that had sold out in Tower Grove Park, and decided to plan one for my personal friends in just 3 days. I thought maybe only 30 to 40 people would attend, however, it ended up being way more than I could even imagine.
The event went so well, I have continued to do it each year, and was spotlighted on the front page of “Wallstreet Journal” in 2019. After that event, I fell in love with the feeling I got from seeing adults have fun like we did as kids. It seemed like every event after would sell out back-to-back. My most popular events have been the Adult Easter Hunt, Adult Prom, Speed Dating, The Rise Open Mic, Adult Game Night, & so much more.
Although I had great success producing cool events in my city, I still didn’t take myself that serious. I remember in 2019 I wrote to the City Museum randomly pitching an idea for an Adult Night at their location. I was let down by finding out they didn’t partner with third-party companies. I was really disappointed because I felt like I still wasn’t good enough. However, I never gave up. I continued to learn and grow. In June 2020, I created a group on Facebook called “Date Ideas & Things To Do In STL” after my friend encouraged me to create it so she could keep up with all the cool things I do and see in the city. Once again, I thought that maybe a few people would be interested but boy was I wrong. In one year, we have grown to 168K members with an average of 2 million viewers a month.
Now, I not only promote my events, but also any & every type of event, business, or person in STL. I have successfully been able to help several small & large businesses stay afloat during this pandemic. We are known for making businesses go viral while staying organic.
In September 2021 I was able to make one of my dreams a reality by partnering with City Museum to have the coolest rooftop event! I felt so much joy while looking around and seeing people of different ethnicities, genders, and sexualities come together to have the time of their lives. The most amazing part is that the person who gave me this chance is Ashley Turigliatto, the same person who planned the very first Adult Easter Egg Hunt in the STL that inspired me back in 2016. For us to come together in a situation where most people would call us each other’s competition is magical in itself.
We hope to set an example for more people in the city to come together to create something bigger than themselves. That’s one way I think we can make STL a better place.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
My biggest struggle was coming out. I remember being scared to come out & potentially disappointing my following. I think I was looking for validation from everyone else but myself. I eventually realized that I’m the main person that I need to make happy, and in that moment I was able to achieve personal growth. I am now proud to be a Black Gay Woman!
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
My son Mason is the reason for all that I do! I want to ensure he has a platform for success as he gets older and can eventually take part in the business. I also love working with the senior population. I created a bucket list program that I hope to make into a non-profit in the future. My program’s most popular bucket list items have been taking a senior at the age of 103 to throw out the first pitch at a Cardinals baseball game, and taking a 96-year-old on her first helicopter ride. It would be a dream to travel the world helping other seniors accomplish some of their dreams.
Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
I’m honored to attend front row and backstage to almost every concert so that I can not only watch the artist but mainly everyone else around them: their crew, band, managers, and more. I’m a visual learner so I love seeing how everything comes together.
