Today we’d like to introduce you to Nicole Byrd.
Hi Nicole, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I’m the owner and lady behind the camera of Rare Vision Photography. I’ve been interested in photography since I was a young girl. Throughout high school and college, I started taking photos for friends and family. As I began my career in marketing, I decided to take this love and start Rare Vision Photography as a part-time endeavor.
Following the birth of my daughter and as I prepared to welcome my son into the world, I decided I didn’t want to miss out on the special moments in my children’s lives. As an A-type personality, I was also very much aware that if I didn’t have something outside the home, I may go insane.
My husband suggested I turn my part-time side hustle into a full-fledged business. That was over four years ago and I’m incredibly grateful for the opportunity to capture moments for others.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Some of my struggles have included the balance of business and family life; setting myself apart from other amazing photographers in the St. Louis area; and developing my own style.
I think I’ve honed my skills in photography and editing to create my own style. As I look back on images I took years ago, I see how I’ve grown and matured in that style.
Staying at home with my kids is very important to me and since they are still young there is always a struggle of how many sessions is too many. I’ve learned along the way and have seen how there are definitely seasons where I may be busier than others.
I make sure to enjoy the slower times and try to not have too many bookings that take me away.

I’m the owner and lady behind the camera of Rare Vision Photography. As a lifestyle photographer, my aim is to not only take photos but capture moments and create an experience. I specialize in family, newborn and personal brand photography.
I’m most proud of developing a relationship with my clients and providing more than photos, but memories for them to cherish. I think what sets me apart is making a photography session fun, stress-free and enjoyable for everyone!
What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
I think there’s a shift of clients not just wanting photos but wanting to have fun in the process. They want to have an experience and have moments captured in the process.
I also see a trend of incorporating video into a session so the client can share on Instagram, TikTok, and other social sites that are heavily video-driven.
