Today we’d like to introduce you to Sean McFarland.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I grew up doing what I always wanted to do in life – Media Production. Growing up in a musical family household, watching music videos and having musical instruments easily accessible, was most likely the root of my creative spark. Since my youngin’ days in the ’90s, I was always the kid who would have the family camera rolling at any given opportunity which fortunately became a great asset later in my life.
Growing up during the spike of the social media era, I quickly became acquainted with how I could use media production in the development of my career path. After countless hours of YouTube video creation and music production in my bedroom studio, deciding what I was going to do in the ‘real world’ was the next hurdle to figure out – as most people do.
I landed my feet at Greenville University in Greenville, IL where I received my Bachelors in Digital Media. During my time there, I was exposed to how I could truly apply my skills and experience through the many opportunities that were offered – ‘Marketing’ was the main element that I quickly fell in love with.
Within a year of graduating from Greenville, I naturally branched off and was taking on many opportunities – from the wedding industry, marketing companies, and various entertainment gigs. From here, I instantly became a contract employee thru multiple companies that involved anything from filming weddings and music videos to being a part of corporate jobs.
‘Till this day, I narrowed my professional opportunities down to what worked for me and what made sense for my overall life. I currently hold a full-time position at LP Creative Studio in St. Louis, MO, where I am a Senior Visual Marketing Specialist leading media production tasks for clients ranging from Fortune 500 companies to startup businesses. On the side, I also have built up a clientele doing Wedding Photography and Videography in both Missouri and Illinois.
Needless to say, I have been very very fortunate to create a living doing what I love to do day in and day out. I am always seeking to assist people with their goals while offering my skills and experience in the media production industry!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
As most people experience, finding what makes them happy while ‘making a living’ is never easy…no matter where you come from. Getting to where I am now involved taking on many opportunities that I wouldn’t say were the most glamorous gigs out there. In doing so, the biggest struggle was losing focus and determination of what I was working towards. By truckin’ along while keeping my main goal in mind, I was able to create ‘tools’ from my opportunities that I could ultimately put in my ‘toolbox’ that I then could morph into what I wanted to do in life.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am in the Media Production world in St. Louis, MO. I specialize in creating all forms of media that is used in today’s world – Videography, Photography, Design, and Marketing. As stated before, I am a Senior Visual Marketing Specialist at LP Creative Studio located in St. Louis, MO. In addition, I also am a Wedding Videographer and Photographer. Needless to say, day in and day out, I can call myself a creative individual that strives to serve others with what I love to do!
As most creatives do, we all have our own ‘niches’. The main thing that I am proud of while being in my field, I believe that I have a holistic approach to what I do. If I am doing a specific media production task, chances are, is that I am naturally handling the given task while applying other elements from my other related skill sets, ultimately elevating the client’s ask.
What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
No matter what industry or life situation that you are in, you have to be a genuine human being. Chances are, that people usually have a full plate of tasks that they are dealing with. By being a genuine person, you can make someone else’s current task or situation more enjoyable – whether you are working with them, conversating, or meeting them for the first time. By being a genuine person, you naturally will be able to communicate and understand their story that much more, ultimately resulting in everyone simply loving life more!
