Exploring Life & Business with Josh And Lindsey Mullins of Josh and Lindsey Photo

Today we’d like to introduce you to Josh And Lindsey Mullins

Hi Josh and Lindsey, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Josh graduated from Webster University in 2011 with Magna Cum Laude and Department Honors for Electronic and Photographic Media with his bachelors in film production and a minor in screenwriting. He was always interested in telling stories, especially stories about real people. He even won a few awards for his short documentary “Hammond’s Books” – St. Louis International Film Festival – Best Direction of a Documentary film and Best Documentary Less than 20 Minutes. And the Reel East Film Festival – Best Documentary Short. You can view the documentary here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UyBagUTwG4A&t=3s

With a strong passion for people and to be behind the camera, Josh has always been captured by street photography. He would walk the St. Louis City Streets looking to document people in their everyday life.

Lindsey is a woman of many talents. She has had many different career paths that ultimately brought her to Saint Louis. She has a passion to make people feel beautiful and special no matter what she puts her hand to.

We both met through a mutual friend at church, and what started as a friendship quickly grew into a partnership—both in life and in business. We started our business together Josh and Lindsey Photo in 2020, and eventually, we tied the knot in September 2022.

Josh had been working at a local video company for 7 years and was starting to get the itch to do his own thing. Lindsey was also looking to start a new career as well, so they both made the leap, leaving their full-time jobs to work together on their own business, and they haven’t looked back since!

We photograph weddings, couples, senior portraits and families. We absolutely love photographing weddings together, because there is that aspect of capturing everyday moments, catching smiles and watching people just enjoy the moment. A lot of the time we can get creative with lighting, especially with senior portraits. For Josh, it’s like film production but with just one frame at a time.

Being part of a someone’s most memorable and joyous moments is such a beautiful experience for us.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It was nervous stepping out on our own, but it’s been totally worth it. Yeah, everything relies on us since we are our own bosses, but it’s also been freeing in that we can pretty much make our own schedule. If there is something we want to do like take a trip somewhere and we don’t have anything on the books, we can do that.

As you know, we’re big fans of Josh and Lindsey Photo. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
We photograph weddings, couples, senior portraits, professional head shots and families. We have “The Best Of” Award on The Knot and Wedding Wire for 2023 and Josh has won the SLCC Photojournalism image of the year in 2018.

What sets us apart from others is that we come as a package. There are a lot of couples out there that wouldn’t want to work together, and we don’t understand that. We’re best friends and we balance each other out nicely. For example, during weddings, we cover two places at once. Or, if one of us is struggling to come up with a creative idea for a cool pose, the other can throw out some ideas to spark something.

We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
Our favorite time as a couple was when we were dating. In 2021 we attended three weddings in one weekend in three different states (not photographing). We drove up to Minnesota for a black sand beach wedding, skipped the reception and drove back down to Illinois where Lindsey was a brides maid the next day for her friend’s wedding and then were guests at a third wedding on that Sunday. It was such a crazy, exhausting weekend, but so memorable and we will never forget it!
