Exploring Life & Business with Travis Brown of Valkyrie Fitness

Today we’d like to introduce you to Travis Brown

Hi Travis , it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Your Story: Travis Brown – Merging Fitness and Film with Passion and Purpose

My journey in both writing and health and wellness began at an early age, shaped by two major influences in my life. My uncle, a competitive bodybuilder, introduced me to the world of strength and discipline, while my mother instilled in me a deep love for storytelling and creativity.

Though I struggled with the structure of traditional schooling, my hunger for knowledge never wavered. I immersed myself in health and fitness, carrying that passion into my college years. However, the creative world always pulled at me, often distracting me from completing my university goals. Instead, I found education beyond the classroom—on the road, surrounded by music, film, and real-life experiences that shaped my artistic and professional vision.

That drive led me to create two projects that fuse my passions:
• Horror Movies Uncut (2008) – A platform dedicated to indie horror and genre filmmaking, which quickly became a respected voice in the horror community.
• Valkyrie Fitness Training Systems (2018) – A program designed to teach mental and physical resilience, inspired by the idea that achieving the impossible often requires the sacrifice of the gods.

Through Horror Movies Uncut, I’ve had the privilege of being a pioneering Black voice in horror, attending top festivals like Sundance, TIFF, and Tribeca, and supporting independent filmmakers worldwide. My next chapter involves expanding into fiction, including short stories, YA horror novels, and screenplays that bring ghostly and authentic haunted tales to life.

Meanwhile, with Valkyrie Fitness, I’ve trained athletes of all levels, from Pee Wee to Pro, and currently have the honor of helping a young fighter chase his dream of winning a UFC World Championship.

Whether through film or fitness, my mission remains the same: to push boundaries, tell powerful stories, and inspire others to achieve what once seemed impossible.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Challenges and obstacles are inevitable—if the road were easy, everyone would be in the spotlight. Growing up as an African American man in St. Louis comes with its own unique hardships. Systemic disadvantages are present from the start, and even coming from a strong, hardworking middle-class family like mine, perceptions of others can still limit opportunities and obscure your true potential.

I also faced struggles with law enforcement and personal distractions—some of which I brought upon myself by not recognizing my own worth. But once I embraced my gifts and realized their power to impact others, I saw my life as something greater than the preconceived notions placed on me. I carry that awareness with me every day, knowing that these barriers still exist—but I move forward with purpose, determined to defy expectations and create my own path.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
At Valkyrie Fitness Training Systems, we focus on building strength, resilience, and performance for both athletes and everyday individuals. We train youth, amateur, and professional athletes to reach peak performance, while also helping general clients get stronger, move better, and achieve their fitness goals in a sustainable way. Our approach is no-nonsense, results-driven, and mindset-focused—whether you’re a competitive fighter chasing a championship or someone looking to improve your overall health, we create tailored programs that challenge and elevate you.

What sets us apart is our commitment to both physical and mental transformation—we don’t just build bodies, we build warriors. One of my proudest achievements is helping a young fighter work toward his dream of winning a UFC World Championship, but I’m just as proud of the everyday people who put in the work and walk out stronger than they ever thought possible. At Valkyrie Fitness, we live by our motto: Be a Warrior, Be a Valkyrie.

Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
Personal connection is everything. I truly invest in my clients because fitness, health, and wellness are about taking it one day at a time. It’s not just about consistency—it’s about finding joy in the process so it becomes part of who you are. Checking a box for someone else is easy, but what are you doing for yourself?

Once I understand what drives you, we can start building the best version of you. If you hide from the toughest parts of yourself, you might be leaving untapped potential on the table—potential that could fuel real progress. My success comes from deep connections with my clients, vendors, and associates. That trust, that commitment, is what sets me apart.
