Today we’d like to introduce you to Danielle Halbert
Danielle, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
In 2025, I will be celebrating my 15th year as a hairstylist and my 6th year as a business owner. It’s amusing to think that when I started all those years ago, chunky highlights inspired by Kelly Clarkson were incredibly popular, and here we are in 2024, and they are trending once again. This journey has certainly been quite an experience.
When I began my career in 2010, I knew this would be a lifelong pursuit, even though I faced certain obstacles and took a six-year intermission. Like many of the girls in my area, I attended the National Academy of Beauty Arts and became completely immersed in the culture of the hair industry. It was fantastic! As a creative person, being able to express myself through hair opened up a whole new world for me.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Everyone faces challenges throughout their careers and personal lives, but it’s not the challenges themselves that are important; it’s the solutions. I encounter obstacles all the time and may feel like there is no way forward, but there is always a solution. You have to exercise your creativity. I never accept “no” as an answer. If one approach doesn’t work, it simply means you need to go back to the drawing board until you find a solution. You’ll never be successful in life if you get knocked down and stay there, feeling sorry for yourself. What defines you is how hard you fight back once you get up.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Styled by Danielle Halbert?
I started Styled by Danielle Halbert in October 2019 and currently have a suite located in Potosi, MO. After working in several salons, I knew I wanted to offer a more personal experience for my clients that a bustling salon simply could not provide. One of the unique features of my business is the personalized, one-on-one experience I strive to create for my clients. They are not just people I see every four weeks; they are friends I have cultivated through years of growing together. I am known to laugh, cry, pray, and celebrate life’s milestones with my clients.
While I have built lasting relationships through this approach, what originally drew clients to me is my hair coloring services. Although I also offer cuts, waxing, and lash services, hair color is my true passion and specialty. I began my career as a corrective colorist, and my love for color has only grown since then. I perform a variety of color services, but my top offerings are lived-in blondes, natural-looking redheads, and sun-kissed brunettes.
The secret to a successful color service lies in the consultation. It is important to prepare by getting to know your client during the initial visit, as this greatly affects the outcome of the desired color. I am actually publishing an eBook in 2025 that will cover my consultation practices to help other stylists set themselves up for success.
Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
While I have a few people I consider mentors in the hair industry, I actually view many individuals as sources of mentorship. You can gain valuable knowledge from various sources, even if they are not directly in your field. I have learned a great deal from Gina Bianca, particularly regarding business wisdom. If you haven’t listened to her podcast yet, I highly recommend it. Additionally, I’ve found valuable insights from small business owners in my community, as well as from family and friends.
I believe a mentor is someone who helps you gain perspective. Many people seek someone to emulate, but that isn’t the primary purpose of mentorship. It’s about personal growth and acquiring knowledge that can ultimately propel you to succeed.
