Today we’d like to introduce you to Danika Williams
Hi Danika, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Wow, where do I begin… I’d like to say that I’ve always been somewhat of a poetic creative. I can recall in highschool writing poetry, short stories, and songs. I even drew up business plans for my dream restaurant/hair salon/event space. I wanted to be everything for everyone – a one stop shop for you to get “bangs & bacon, weaves & waffles, and eggs & extensions” (a nod to my favorite line from BAPS) then slide on over the party room for a good time. Wild right? I know. But I was going to make it happen right after college. Well, they say if you want to make God laugh, tell him your plans. In 2005, being a 20 year old mother of 2 with limited funds, I was off track with my plan but the silver lining was this time would set the stage for the unofficial birthing of DDP.
Determined to provide fun and unique parties for my children, I transformed our apartment into memorable experiences of carnival parties and royal princess balls with all the DIY trimmings. What started as a hobby expanded into various projects for family and friends. As time progressed, the passion grew, the ideas grew, and I believed that there was still hope to make this dream a reality; everyone deserved to have memorable moments. This endeavor had to flourish. During COVID I decided to tap into tshirt design – a platform for one to express themselves without uttering a word; instead, one could simply ‘say it with ya chest’. In 2021, unsure if I would be successful or well received in the business space, I took the leap of faith and decided to officially form D’Lightfully D’Signed Prints, LLC, a small business with a big heart.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I wish I could say that it has been easy. The biggest struggle to date has been gaining visibility to establish our brand and finding our customer base in the market. There have been highs and lows; months where the orders are overwhelmingly coming in and month over month in a drought. But through it all I understand that survival in any business takes perseverance. As we enter this next year, I am just trusting the process, preparing for whatever is next.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about D’Lightfully D’Signed Prints LLC?
