Hidden Gems: Meet Paige Sparks of Eccher Law Group

Today we’d like to introduce you to Paige Sparks.

Hi Paige, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself
I am a first-generation lawyer and I come from a very humble background. I have had a lot of help to get to where I am today – whether someone was letting me crash in their basement while I was struggling through law school, or family and friends making sure I had a meal because I couldn’t afford one. It definitely took a village to get me through law school, which was always a lifelong goal of mine. I’m very grateful for all of the support I’ve had to get where I am today.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I have had 3-5 jobs at any given time ever since I was old enough to work, and old habits die hard because I am still doing a few of them as side hustles on the weekend (from making wedding cakes to doing bridal makeup!) I have known I wanted to be a lawyer since I was in high school when a lawyer speaker came to share their story. I went to undergrad at Lindenwood University for Political Science and Public Administration and started setting up to attend St. Louis University School of Law. Law school was pretty brutal for me at first because I was used to not having to try very hard with academics. Not only does law school basically rewire how you see the whole world from a legal perspective, you are also no longer one of the smartest people in the room anymore. I kind of have an underdog story for law school because for much of it I was on academic probation or at the bottom of the class and really struggled to keep my head above water (that’s also something a lot of people are not transparent about and try to play it cool – law school is HARD!) Midway through law school I landed a clerkship with a trial firm and found my true passion in trial ad class. I am definitely a practical kind of person and while I could not write the best brief, I quickly discovered I was destined to be a trial attorney because it came so naturally to me and I ranked my trial ad class.

Fast forward a few years, I am working harder than ever before and bringing in new cases left and right. The beginning of quarantine encouraged me to experiment with TikTok (which really took off!) and my account has blown up from sharing legal knowledge. I’m very proud of my accomplishments this early on in my career. I am a representative of the Young Lawyers’ Section for St. Louis, and I have recently been asked to coach a local high school’s mock trial team (which I love). I always joke with law students that if I can make it through law school and pass the bar, they definitely can if they try hard enough!

As you know, we’re big fans of Eccher Law Group. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
I’m a trial attorney at Eccher Law Group and I practice mostly in employment law, as well as a few other areas including criminal defense, personal injury, and other unique claims under Missouri law. I have been blessed to work at a law firm that gives me a ton of leniency to work on what I want, and I love a good challenge. I take pride in the fact that someone can come to me after being turned down by ten other lawyers saying they don’t have a case and we can recover compensation for them through a clever or unique Missouri law. The freedom to work on whatever projects I want means I never have a dull workday, and I work at several levels from municipal court to high-profile cases in Federal court. I enjoy helping craft creative legal arguments where my opponent doesn’t really know what to do with it or how to handle it, and because of that, I think our law firm kind of has a reputation for being a little bit of a wild card.

Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
I am super introverted. I think that surprises people a lot because I’m always on social media, attending and planning events, or posting constantly collaborating with others. My social battery runs low fast, and if it were up to me, I would always be at home watching a movie in some comfy clothes with my dog and drinking wine.

A couple other random facts – I have a 15-year-old retired horse that I used to competitive showjumping with. Now that he’s retired, he’s pretty much an oversized puppy dog that does tricks. We still go on the occasional trail ride! I make wedding cakes or tiered cakes for events from time to time. I worked all through undergrad at a boutique family bakery and still enjoy making special cases. I also do wedding makeup on the weekends for bridal parties with one of my best friends.
