Hidden Gems: Meet Sage Kinney of Saged Salon

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sage Kinney.

Hi Sage, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I have always wanted to do hair since I was 6 years old, so when I had the opportunity to go to a technical Highschool, I jumped on it immediately! From there, I got to have my first job in a salon at only 15. I tried a high-end salon first as an assistant and then wanted a chance to grow and start working on clients, so I went to a chain salon when I was 17.

By 19, I wanted to go back to a higher-end salon and ended up at a salon that provided me with some of the best opportunities to grow, the first one being that I was able to get my foot in the door to educating for a hair product company. When I was 25, I decided I wanted to move and try my hand in hair out in Denver, CO. although I was only there for a year, I met the most amazing stylists and got to participate in two fashion shows. Now during this whole year, I flew back to New Jersey once a month to take care of the clients that I left behind.

And this is when I realized if I’m going to get big in this industry I need to move back to where my book was the largest. During this time, I was also auditioning to become a national artist for the production company I was working for and my dreams came true when I was offered that position. By 2019, I was finally a national artist, and I was back in my old salon in New Jersey.

Then 2020 happened, and I had to make the decision to do hair from home prohibition style. And that’s when I knew I needed to open my very own salon and decided to take that leap in august 2020.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has been one of the most exciting roads but definitely not smooth.

Building the clientele that I have now took YEARS and when I moved to Denver, that’s when that became a harsh reality. And with anyone who has perfected their craft, we can only grow by learning from some big mistakes.

As you know, we’re big fans of Saged Salon. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Being that I opened this business in the middle of Covid, I had to develop a “new salon” environment.

I wanted to make people feel safe and comfortable in such a stressful time, without feeling sterile. This is now why our salon is most known for the “experience” our clients have and less about how they look. I want everyone to leave feeling beautiful inside and out and want to stay with us forever.

It’s about being fully heard and leaving with exactly what each client is looking for, no matter the age or style each person has.

Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
Being that I’m in Cherry Hill, I am able to service everyone from the Philadelphia area all the way to all the shore points and it is extremely accessible.
