Today we’d like to introduce you to Sue Kelly
Hi Sue, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My journey into the world of real estate is rooted in a background of empathy and understanding from my first career as a private practice therapist. Initially, I dedicated myself to the demanding yet rewarding field of therapy, where I honed my skills in active listening, problem-solving, and emotional intelligence. These skills were invaluable as I navigated the complexities of human emotions and relationships. However, the constant demand of being on call 24/7 became increasingly challenging, especially after the arrival of children. This pivotal moment in my life led me to seek a career that would allow you to balance my professional aspirations with the joys and responsibilities of motherhood.
During this transitional phase, a suggestion from my mother’s friend, a realtor, opened a new path for me. She recognized fmy ability to refer business, & she encouraged me to obtain a real estate license. Embracing this new opportunity, I embarked on a journey that has now spanned over 25 years. The skills that I cultivated as a therapist have translated into my real estate practice. I believe my ability to understand clients’ needs, communicate effectively, and build trust has set what sets me apart in the industry. These qualities, combined with my dedication and experience, have enabled me to guide countless clients through one of the most significant decisions of their lives—buying or selling a home.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The road has not always been smooth. The fall of 2008 and the closing of Title Companies was a setback to start with. Real estate is always changing, not just with technology but with law and paperwork, and social media. We also have to keep up with government regulations and inspections. We must be vigilant and keep learning to be successful.
As you know, we’re big fans of Compass Reatly Group. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Three years ago, I joined Compass Realty Group. I am honored and thrilled to be a part of the Number One Brokerage in the US. The technology isn’t just designed to make real estate easier for agents; it is designed to make our clients have a transparent, seamless experience. I appreciate the experienced agents in our Brokerage, and the collaboration is amazing. Working with top agents from across the US has been eye opening and enjoying.
Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
Real estate isn’t a weekend job—it takes commitment, endurance, and perseverance. As a newer agent, I think it’s good to have a mentor or a more experienced agent to take you under their wing and show you the ropes.
