Life & Work with Amy Lescher

Today we’d like to introduce you to Amy Lescher.

Hi Amy, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
I was bored and raised in STL. I am married (Erik), with two daughters (Sophie, 19, and Stevie, 11) and two French Bulldogs (Bronx and Tank). grew up very athletic and always playing competitive sports. I even played soccer in college.

It was in college that I got certified to teach group fitness and began teaching fitness. I taught for the sports teams on campus and continued teaching fitness as a secondary job through my early 30s. I have always been enthralled by the body, how it functions and how it moves. I have a degree in Biology and I am a nurse. Basically, I am a major biology and science nerd! I took up fitness full-time after my second daughter was born. I’ve been in fitness for more of my life than not. I’ve seen it change, morph, and even evolve during a pandemic. Movement brings me happiness, strength, and courage. It is through movement that I strive to allow others to find those things too.

A few years back, when my oldest was around 3rd grade, I created a mother/daughter program for 3rd through 5th-grade girls and their moms. I partnered with Ivivva (the lululemon girls’ store). I am currently revamping the program to be current and to include 6th through 8th-grade girls.

I lead a team of 40 or so yoga and fitness instructors at TruFusionSTL. I love teaching, I love leading and I love our community. It is one of acceptance, non-judgment, and a whole lot of fun. I really sharing my knowledge and experience in that environment.

Whether they know it, my parents always pushed for hard work, authenticity, and honesty. These remain my core values to date. I believe in putting forth your full effort in everything you do, no matter if it’s a workout class, your job, or cooking dinner. I feel the world is a constant state of distraction and people can’t or maybe won’t give their 100% to any one thing as they are trying to do too many things. We desperately need to focus.

I believe in being yourself all the time. I have never molded myself to fit others and it has made me friends and helped me lose some too. If I can’t be me, I can’t be free! I know that I possess gifts and talents to share with the world and it’s my duty to do so. Lastly, honesty is my big driver. I was taught to know my word is sacred. If I say I’m going to do something, you will find me doing it. At the end of the day, all we are lies in our integrity and kindness.

I work every day to leave a legacy with those around me but most importantly with my two daughters. I want them to see life as it really is, the struggles to stay positive and overcome obstacles, and the blessings in everyday things like the sky during sunset. I want everyone that I come in contact with to be better, stronger, and believe in themselves a little more after they are with me.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Life is a challenge. It’s constantly being able to be flexible and rise above. One thing I love to hold onto is my ability to choose. Every moment we are faced with a choice. It’s those choices that lead to habits that lead to success.

Make sure you are actively choosing! I’ve been divorced and a single mom, I’ve been fired and I’ve had major fights with family…. And all of those helped me to be me, to own my piece, to learn, and above all grow.

What makes you happy?
Happiness is a choice. Every day, I choose to be happy. I decided to see the positive and look for the silver linings.

Happiness is my family, but mostly knowing I am raising strong, independent and kind women to lead our future!
