Today we’d like to introduce you to Cody Carpenter.

Cody Carpenter

Hi Cody, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My story begins in high school, where I discovered my passion for photography through the yearbook club. This early experience allowed me to explore my creativity and develop my skills in layout and composition. I also took on additional projects, such as designing shirts and theatre posters for school events, which further fueled my interest in graphic design. After graduating high school, I initially enrolled in culinary school. However, I soon realized that my true calling lay elsewhere. I decided to pivot and pursue my passion for design more seriously, which led me to apply to Full Sail University in Winter Park, Florida. Thankfully, I was accepted, and this decision marked a turning point in my career.

At Full Sail University, I received hands-on training and had the incredible opportunity to work with major corporations such as Pizza Hut, U.S. Foods, WWE, and the NHL. These experiences were invaluable, providing real-world insights and helping me build a solid portfolio. After three and a half years of rigorous coursework and practical experience, I graduated with a Bachelor’s in Graphic Design & Media.

I am in a good place professionally, working with the NCAA College Basketball. This year, I had the privilege of helping to market the Big 12 Tournament during March Madness in Kansas City. Additionally, I collaborated on projects with Nike and the T-Mobile Center, further expanding my professional network and experience.

My journey to my current position was challenging. I worked with several advertising agencies to hone my skills and gain industry experience. These roles were crucial in helping me get my foot in the door and build a strong foundation in the field. I also served as the Social Media Manager for the Ambassador Hotel in Kansas City for a couple of years, where I learned digital marketing and social media strategy intricacies. Additionally, I worked as a contractor for LTN Global, which broadened my expertise in media and technology.

Looking back, my path has been marked by strategic decisions and a relentless pursuit of my passion for design. Each step, from high school projects to my current role, has contributed to my growth and success in the industry. I am excited about the future and the opportunities in my career.

We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
My journey in the design and media industry has been anything but a smooth road. Like many others in this field, I have faced numerous challenges, and burnout was one of the most significant hurdles. There were times when the constant demand for creativity and the relentless pace of projects made me question whether I wanted to continue in this profession. The pressure of always being on, consistently delivering, without much time to recharge took its toll on me. I felt overwhelmed and exhausted at my lowest points, and I seriously considered leaving the field altogether. However, during these challenging times, my faith was crucial in helping me persevere. God guided me through these struggles, giving me the strength and resilience to keep going even when things seemed bleak. One key lesson I learned is the importance of taking breaks and allowing myself time to rest. This is essential to prevent burnout and maintain a healthy work-life balance. Additionally, I realized that perseverance and dedication are critical. Every job has challenges, and putting your best foot forward and pushing is vital, even when the going gets tough.

Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I specialize in small print graphics and have built a reputation for my expertise. My go-to projects include merch design, social media content, ads, mailers, business cards, posters, and rack cards. Each piece I create reflects my commitment to quality and attention to detail, ensuring that every design communicates effectively and stands out. In addition to graphics, I have a strong passion for photography and videography. While there is always room for growth, I am confident in my skills and enjoy capturing moments through the lens. My work spans various genres, including food photography, product shots, weddings, sports events, and concerts. I take pride in my ability to tell a story through visuals, whether it’s the intricate details of a dish, the joy of a wedding, or the excitement of a live event. I am mostly known for my work in product photography, wedding coverage, food styling, and social media content creation. These areas allow me to combine my love for design and media, producing content that resonates with audiences and clients.
