Today we’d like to introduce you to Dominique Taylor.
Hi Dominique, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
What started as a small and fun idea to eliminate some spare time I had between classes quickly became one of the things I am most proud of today. After losing my job to the COVID-19 pandemic, I was unsure of the direction I wanted to go in regarding jobs and how to make an income during these tough times. I sat down with myself to figure out something I love to do and began to form a business plan. After several ideas passed, Popzz! came to mind. As always, I consulted with my mom who agreed that it was a great idea, especially with the holidays approaching. Growing up with a great deal of love and celebrations, I started Popzz! as a way to bring joy & happiness to those who receive our products.
Popzz! has allowed me to rediscover my creative abilities and I’m extremely blessed that my small business has been nothing but continued success since the beginning.
I am so excited for our 1 Year Anniversary coming soon!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Thankfully, everything has been pretty smooth. However, there have been a couple of bumps in the road for the Popzz! team.
There are often times where unpredictable factors come about. For example, consumer demand can cause many of our necessary supplies to be sold out in the stores/online very quickly. However, this has worked in our favor a few times allowing us to be even more creative with the materials we are able to find.
Another example would be preparing for the slower season. Since many gifts are given throughout certain times of the year, we experienced a lower number of orders than we expected, but we were able to combat this by preparing for our busier months!
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a college student at North Carolina A&T State University earning my B.A in Liberal Studies-Applied Cultural Thought. Through the distant learning program at my school, this has allowed me to have the perfect balance between Popzz! and my academic career. Following graduation, I plan to attend graduate school at Louisiana State University or the University of Kansas. I hope to bring Popzz! wherever I go!
With my major, I plan to work in the Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion field. My love of traveling domestically and internationally has allowed me to see our world, the people, and all of the beauty it has to offer. Having these experiences makes me very passionate about what I want to do in life & why I should be doing it.
Do you any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
Such a hard question because I have so many great ones.
If I had to choose just one, my favorite childhood memory would be going to band practice with my grandfather Robert Edwards Jr. (deceased). My grandpa was a band director at Normandy High School and every Saturday morning before my ballet lessons, we used to attend marching band practice. While I dreaded it sometimes, watching the students prepare for parade season in St. Louis and seeing how my grandpa put together something so big and amazing blew my mind. I realized how much of an impact my grandfather had on so many people and students and I realized that I want to be that same positive influence in many people’s lives, just like him.
