Life & Work with Joshua Anderson of Midtown/Grand Center Arts District Area

Today we’d like to introduce you to Joshua Anderson.

Joshua Anderson

Hi Joshua, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My passion and purpose are helping youth and young adults reach their emotional healing and leadership potential. Overcoming various situations of trauma in my own life is the drive that helped shape me into who I am today and helped propel me to do what I do today. Before I started the nonprofit, it was the problems and needs of my local community, especially regarding youth and young adults, that I wanted to address to bring about the greater change I see for the future.

Alright, let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what challenges have you had to overcome?
The journey has had victories and successes but has been steady and rewarding. One of the biggest challenges is communication, which includes being available, assertive, and willing to cooperate to resolve or restore.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a graduate of Southern Illinois University Edwardsville (SIUE) with a baccalaureate degree in Community Health Education and received additional studies in School Health Education and Physical Education. I have acquired outstanding experience in health education, youth development, social services, community engagement, and program management and administration through my work history. Other than the typical job employment– I have performed numerous dance, pantomime, and drama presentations from local to international. I have traveled around the USA as a dancer with Eddie James Ministries. I have traveled on four mission trips to the nation of Costa Rica and one mission trip to the Dominican Republic to teach mime and dance. St. Louis was the starting place for my artistic work. It is a joy to share my gifts and talents, impacting many people’s lives as I blaze trails and help lead more people toward personal optimism and movement in their life’s purpose.

Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
Finding a mentor is a complex journey while the world constantly changes, and options vary based on personal backgrounds and exposure. A person seeking a mentor can find one by connecting or networking with others in the workplace, at a community event, or on social media. I cherish legal, safe, appropriate, healthy, and productive mentoring. I must receive mentorship, especially for my personal life and career field, and I have substantial positive results. Being mentored is one of the best things that happened in my life.
