Today we’d like to introduce you to Kimberly Adams
Hi Kimberly, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Hello, my name is Kimberly, and I am the owner and designer of JAdamsCollection. I am 19 years old and currently live in Missouri. I graduated from high school in 2023, and these days, I’m balancing a part-time job in mailing services while managing my small business. Having been homeschooled throughout my education, I was able to dedicate extra time to my passion for crafts.
My creative journey began in 2016 when my grandmother gifted me a craft kit, sparking my interest in bead jewelry and rubber band crafts. This laid the foundation for my business. In 2019, I discovered crochet, and it quickly became an obsession. Since then, I have expanded my skills to include designing original patterns and creating stitch markers for fellow crafters. In 2018, I took the plunge and opened my Etsy shop, and I’m so grateful for how much it’s grown since then!
At JAdamsCollection, I’m all about creating high-quality, handmade pieces that inspire and bring joy. I’m constantly working to expand my custom designs and to build a community of crafters who share the same passion. My faith guides everything I do, and I strive to craft with integrity, passion, and love.
One of the most rewarding parts of my business is interacting with customers at in-person markets. I absolutely love seeing the joy on children’s faces when they first spot my booth—it never gets old!
Some of my favorite aspects of my business include creating unique crochet items and having the creative freedom to experiment with new designs. My stitch markers, in particular, have gained popularity with fellow crafters. My crochet ‘chill pills’ have also become a customer favorite.
I have also recently begun teaching crochet in a classroom setting. The first semester has been a rewarding experience, and has helped me see new ways on how to view and fix issues that may arise. Teaching has deepened my passion for the craft and inspired me to share the art of crochet with more and more people.
When I’m not crafting, I enjoy relaxing through activities like reading, listening to music, and roller skating.
I am incredibly grateful for the gifts God has given me, and I feel blessed to be able to share my creations with all of you. Thank you for supporting my small business and for being part of this journey!
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
There are times when I question whether it’s worth continuing my business. I wonder if people will like the things I create, and it can feel challenging at times. But something I remind myself of is the saying, ‘Rome wasn’t built in a day.’ Keeping that in mind, I try to focus on taking things at my own pace, and avoiding the pressure to rush or compare myself to others.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I specialize in creating high-quality, handmade crochet items that are both unique and meaningful. I’m passionate about designing custom pieces that inspire and bring joy to others, and I’m constantly exploring new ways to expand my collection. One of the things that sets my work apart is my focus on creating play food and Christian-themed crochet amigurumi patterns. I noticed a lack of both, so I decided to fill that gap by offering crochet patterns that resonate with people in meaningful ways.
What I’m most proud of is how my work has connected with a community of like-minded crafters and customers. Being able to offer something unique that brings joy to others is incredibly fulfilling!
