Life & Work with Kimberly Tadlock-Peluso of Ladue/Ballwin MO

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kimberly Tadlock-Peluso

Kimberly, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Where do I even start with my story? Speaking about it comes easier to me than writing it down.
I am a mother of twin boys, who are now 32 years old. Despite their age, they will always be my boys. After a difficult divorce when they were four years old, I raised them single-handedly until they turned 21. The separation took a toll on us physically and mentally. In search of a safe and supportive community, we moved to a small town where my boys still reside. This decision shaped my parenting style – to raise my boys to be good men, compassionate partners, and resilient individuals who always find the silver lining in tough times. I am proud to say that I have accomplished this goal. As a single parent, I worked three jobs to provide for them and ensure our basic needs were met. It was challenging but also incredibly rewarding. My sons and I made quite the team. Amidst all the struggles, I faced and overcame breast cancer. Not long after one of my boys battled and defeated testicular cancer. We had our tough days, but they were outweighed by the countless amazing moments that gave us the strength to keep pushing forward.

I have owned/operated a pet sitting business, I was a store manager for different retail outlets, owned a clothing store for several years, I was a bartender, I went back to school and received my degree when I was 42, and I was a victims advocate for several years

After starting my search for a life partner, I was blessed to meet an incredible man and we have been happily married since 2015. I am also a bonus mom to my husband’s two amazing young adults. Not long after our wedding, I was unexpectedly laid off as a buyer at a local camera company. Uncertain of what the future held, I took my husband’s advice to explore my love for photography. Although it was initially daunting, I pushed myself to see what I could accomplish. Over time, my work has transformed into a focused passion – whether it be capturing a lone chair in the corner or a Puffin gazing at the sunset. It seems that with each photograph, I am striving to share my vision with the world. This dedication has resonated with those who view my work and has even translated into my recent pursuit of painting. For me, art is not just a means of income; it is also a sanctuary and source of healing.

I also co-own Flutter City Boutique in Ballwin, MO. We are a mother/daughter owned business specializing in fun fashion that is affordable for everyone. We are located inside Painted Tree Boutiques 14850 Manchester Road.

I am a professional photographer whose deep love for nature traces back to my childhood
in rural southern Illinois. Growing up surrounded by natural beauty, I spent my days exploring the
outdoors, where my connection to the environment began to flourish. At just seven years old, I
received my first camera from my Father—a Pentax—a gift that ignited my passion for capturing the world around me.
My early fascination with photography set the foundation for a lifelong journey of storytelling
through my lens.
My passion and dedication to photography has earned me widespread recognition,
with my work showcased in gallery exhibitions across the metro area, featured in states nationwide, and
published in a magazine. Known for my ability to capture the essence of nature with striking clarity and
emotion or find the singular focus to evoke deep interest in my subject.
Beyond my own creative projects, I love to share my knowledge by teaching iPhone photography to local
groups, inspiring my participants to discover the art of photography in everyday moments.
For me , photography is life illuminated—each image holds the power to tell a story, evoke
emotion, and connect us to the world around us.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
1. Challenges:
Parenting twin sons as a single parent. Juggling three jobs for nearly a decade. Seeking opportunities to participate in all school activities. Navigating the dating landscape. Maintaining a positive outlook. Dealing with cancer.

Although these experiences are often viewed as struggles, they were, in fact, challenges that offered avenues for personal development, discovery, and strength.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
As a photographer, I have earned recognition for my distinctive body of work. My creations often possess a unique quality that sets them apart. I tend to concentrate on what I perceive to be the “subject.” For instance, during my visit to the Vatican in 2022, I encountered a corridor adorned with exquisite peach walls and a solitary chair positioned at the far end. It felt as though the chair had been intentionally placed there for my discovery. Capturing this image has become one of my cherished memories from my time in Italy, highlighting the vibrant wall color and the way the flooring directs attention to that singular object.
Several years ago, I took up painting as a personal hobby. Through self-directed learning, I have been able to identify my preferred subjects and artistic styles. This journey has been immensely enjoyable, and I eagerly anticipate where it will lead me in the future.

I take great pride in having my work exhibited in galleries. This was a personal goal I set for myself, and I initially doubted my ability to achieve it. The fear of uncertainty can be a significant barrier to our willingness to pursue our aspirations. However, once I conquered my fear of rejection, I found the resolve to submit my applications and was accepted into galleries that I once thought were beyond my reach.

Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
I am confident in my ability to inspire others with my work. My passion for what I do is evident in every interaction with prospective clients/customers. After all, one’s success in art depends on their ability to convey their enthusiasm for their creations.
