Life & Work with Kyle Glaser of Cherokee

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kyle Glaser.

Kyle Glaser

Kyle, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
It all started when I (Kyle Glaser, Lead Guitar) met our original drummer at a bar while I was drinking with my parents. He asked me to jam with him and I totally blew him off. A week later I had bought a new guitar and decided to give him a shot. It went so well that the next week he invited some friends, and it was so seamless. We were all improvising together but it had the feel of “real music”, like something that could be on the radio. We’ve had some lineup changes since then, but we have our forever band with over 80 years of music experience between us. Myself, Grant McWhorter on vocals and Rhythm Guitar, Caleb Thomas in drums, and Collin Lashbrook on bass.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I can’t say pursuing original music long term is necessarily easy. We’ve had to change band members, raise money for studio time and videos. Some opportunities pan out and some don’t. We all work full time, some of us are fathers. But at the end of the day, we make music we love and people seem to really enjoy it. We’ve had nothing but great feedback, we’ve done some really cool things in lots of cool places and don’t plan on stopping. We believe in our music and that won’t stop for any hardship.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Original music, energetic live shows, events and video content. We’re most proud of the music we’ve professionally recorded and mastered, as well as our music videos. What sets us apart, in our opinion, is a high standard of quality, our showmanship and energy live, and and how accessible our music is. We don’t really exist in one genre, so there’s a lot for casual listeners and dedicated musicheads to enjoy.

Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
We certainly take risks! Music takes a lot of time and money and since we’re not playing 4 hour cover shows for bars, a lot of it comes out of each of our pockets. We like to go out of town for shows and you truly never know what the travel, location, crowd, or payment is going to look like at times. We believe those decisions all add up to new friends, fans, and memories so we tend not to regret things even if they don’t pan out like we expect.
