Life & Work with Luis Manuel Rodriguez Roman

Today we’d like to introduce you to Luis Manuel Rodriguez Roman.

Luis Manuel Rodriguez Roman

Hi Luis Manuel. Can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
When the podcasts became popular, I was interested in the concept. One day, I sent a DM via Twitter to a famous podcaster from Puerto Rico named Chente Ydrach, of whom I am a fan. Luckily, he answered my message and gave me several tips to get started; one was choosing a topic I could feel comfortable with. He also recommended Podcaster Manolo Matos since Manolo’s format was more similar to what I wanted to do. By March 2019, I began interviewing athletes and singers worldwide from my small studio through the Zoom application. Little by little, I created a space in my house, which later became the José ‘Piculin’ Ortiz studio, a basketball legend in Puerto Rico. Thanks to the podcast I created: Desde La Línea, I have covered important sporting events from FIBA, 3×3, and MLS, among others. One of my most outstanding achievements was covering my country’s national basketball team, Puerto Rico, in San Juan, Puerto Rico, and covering Team USA in basketball. This podcast is my therapy; I enjoy learning stories of artists and athletes worldwide and capturing them forever.

Would it have been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
In the media, there is no quiet path; there is a lot of competition. Something I have had to learn along the way is that my competition is with myself. My mindset, day by day, is that I must continue to improve and reach the next level. I am always looking for ways to improve the content and its quality. When starting, the most challenging thing for a podcaster is getting interviews because no one knows you, and only some believe in your project. With the assistance of public relations, I gained credibility, which helped me a lot on the way to continuing to earn the respect of potential interviewees in the future. However, it is still a challenge to get interviews from celebrities.

Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m a podcaster, but I studied audio editing, and that’s my specialty. I am proud of the achievements obtained with Desde La Línea Podcast, which has people listening to it in 30 countries around the World. What makes me different from others is my mindset and consistency. I always make content even if I’m sick; if someone says no to an interview, I look for another alternative. I don’t get discouraged and always keep going.

Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those just starting.
Everyone reading this should start with what you have available; the most important thing is to begin. When you create a project, you must be aware that things planned will only sometimes turn out as you wish; many times, people will say no to interviews, and your audience grows little by little. I already had the mindset to deal with those situations when I started. On this path, the most important thing is to keep your spirits up because it drives you to continue doing more, set up goals and go for them, accept constructive criticism and analyze the destructive ones, and always be willing to learn more.
