Today we’d like to introduce you to Nicole Johnson.
Hi Nicole, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
When my husband and I were married in August 2017, we wanted our dog, Greta, in our wedding photos and at some of our reception. To accomplish this, Greta had multiple handlers throughout the day of our wedding. One trusted friend who was not a wedding guest and another friend who was a wedding guest and had to sacrifice a good time to watch our dog. This shouldn’t be so challenging. A couple of months later, I laid in bed one night thinking how there should be a service for this. But why would people trust me to handle their pets?
Before WedPets came along, my husband and I fostered dogs. We dove in headfirst by fostering mama dogs and entire litters. My love for animals and dogs runs deep, and I knew I had experience with all breeds, sizes and temperaments (street cred, perhaps). I could just share my background. Being told this service is “genius” is something we hear all the time. That’s a really great testament to how happy we’re making our couples.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The requests started coming in, and the volume became too much for one person to handle: a good problem to have. God started putting amazing people in my path, and WedPets wouldn’t be what it is today without the help of my supportive husband and some extraordinarily strong and smart women who are also, most importantly, compassionate animal lovers.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
During the hours of 9-5, I am a Marketing Compliance Analyst. All the time, I’m a mama to a sweet, smart and strong 1.5 year old boy.
My passion for animals is what sparked the launch of WedPets. Within the first year, we received our first accolade: The Knot ‘Best Of Weddings’ for 2019, based on the number of 2018 five-star reviews, all of which were unsolicited.
The next award WedPets earned, which means so much to us, is The Perfect Wedding Guide “Vendors’ Choice” Award for Best Unique Vendor. This means the vendors in St. Louis collectively voted for us as a vendor who plays well with others.
We LOVE to make our couples AND our vendor friends (AKA friendors) happy! We know our business is very niche, and this is what makes us unique. There isn’t another business like WedPets in St. Louis. Because of this, there are no bars or benchmarks set. We set the standard, and we are always working to raise that bar.
What’s next?
This year, we have undergone a huge branding overhaul and a major revamp to our website. We added another handler and an intern to our team. While I can’t yet share our big vision yet, we know the future has a lot in store for us. Stay tuned!
