Life & Work with Steward Stiles III of Ferguson (North County)

Today we’d like to introduce you to Steward Stiles III

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I share a story familiar to many young leaders with big dreams. I grew up in a loving, two-parent household deeply rooted in faith. We were a close-knit family, but my parents were intentional about giving my siblings and me the freedom to explore our interests and chart our own paths. While our Christian faith and church commitment served as the cornerstone of our lives, my parents encouraged us to embrace a well-rounded identity.

For me, it was through the church that I discovered and nurtured my passion for music—a passion that has opened countless doors. I honed my craft while studying at Webster University, where I founded the campus gospel choir, performed with the St. Louis Symphony, and eventually became an independent gospel artist traveling across the country to share the good news of Jesus Christ through music.

Beyond music, my heart is deeply invested in youth ministry. I am honored to serve as the first-ever youth pastor in my church’s history, as well as the District Youth President for our church organization, where I lead youth ministries across more than 60 churches in Eastern Missouri and Southern Illinois. This dual calling—music and ministry—fuels my purpose and drives my mission to inspire and empower the next generation.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
ABSOLUTLEY NOT! My journey has not been without significant obstacles, but I firmly believe those challenges were essential for my growth and success over the years. One of the most profound struggles I faced was the loss of my father just before my graduation. His absence has been deeply felt, especially during moments of hardship when I find myself wishing I could turn to him for guidance and wisdom.

That loss, compounded by other difficulties, led me to confront depression and even struggle with thoughts of suicide. There were moments when I felt like I was drowning in a sea of failures and misfortunes, believing that this was the life I was destined to live. However, through the support of counseling, family, and friends, I was able to overcome those dark moments. I now understand that suicide was not the answer, and I am proud to say that I am thriving. These experiences have shaped me into a resilient and empathetic individual, deeply committed to overcoming adversity and helping others find hope in their own struggles.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I specialize in musical performance, music education, and production. As an independent gospel artist, I have relied heavily on my musical training to write and arrange original compositions. That dedication and perseverance paid off as my music debuted at #10 on the Gospel Billboard charts, earning multiple independent music awards for both my artistry and skill.

What sets me apart in this field, especially within St. Louis, is my strategic approach to music and ministry growth. While many local artists focus on “conquering” the city first—a commendable effort given how underrated St. Louis is as a hub of creativity—I chose to take a different route. Instead of being confined by local boundaries, I marketed my music, ministry, and brand on a broader scale, prioritizing audiences beyond my city.

This “outside-in” strategy allowed me to connect with individuals and communities who resonate deeply with my message, no matter where they are. As a result, my work has gained recognition far beyond my St. Louis roots. Although I’m proud of where I come from, my music, ministry and brand extend well beyond my zip code, keeping me constantly on the road and reaching wider audiences.
