Hi Tinaira, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I became a Sisterlocks consultant in 2020 as part of a transformative career change. I was drawn to this profession because I saw the profound impact it had on helping women of color embrace their natural hair through the loc journey—an experience that has been deeply meaningful in my own life. Inspired by the work of experienced mentors who have made a significant difference in the community, I was motivated to be a part of this rewarding profession. Becoming a Sisterlocks consultant has allowed me to combine my passion for natural hair care with entrepreneurship, empowering others to embrace their beauty with confidence. When my mentor decided to relocate and leave St. Louis, I saw an opportunity to continue her legacy. I made the decision to take over the salon and carry forward the mission of empowering women of color through their natural hair journey. My goal has always been to provide a space where clients feel confident, beautiful, and supported as they embrace their Sisterlocks. Through dedication and passion, I am committed to upholding the values and impact that my mentor established, ensuring that this transformative work continues in the community.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Owning a salon comes with its share of challenges and responsibilities. Beyond ensuring that I am available for my own clients and providing exceptional service, I also have a duty to support my coworkers and mentees in delivering the same level of care to their clients. It is essential that we work together as a cohesive team, maintaining high standards of customer service and hair care. My goal is to create an environment where every client feels valued, their hair remains healthy, and they gain confidence in embracing their natural beauty.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
We are a salon specializing in all things Locs, with a particular focus on small Locs. Our expertise includes Sisterlocks, Interlocks, Microlocks, and Traditional Locs.
While Traditional Locs are more popular in our city, we take pride in offering healthy, product-free Loc services that promote long-term hair health. Our approach ensures that clients not only achieve beautiful Locs but also maintain the strength and integrity of their natural hair.
Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
My greatest resources are my mentors, who have guided me not only in business but also in life. Their wisdom and experience have been invaluable in shaping my journey as a salon owner and Loc specialist. Additionally, as a woman of faith, I turn to scripture and seek guidance from God in my decisions, trusting that faith and perseverance will lead me in the right direction.
