Today we’d like to introduce you to Angie Miller.
Hi Angie, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My story starts at birth really. My mom is a nail artist so I have been in salons my whole life. I never planned to follow in her footsteps, but I guess it sort of happened anyway. I started beauty school in 2008 and as soon as I got to cut my first mannequin I was immediately hooked. It was so fun and challenging. I get bored easily, and I’ve never become bored of doing hair. So after graduation, I worked in a lot of different types of salons. I rented a chair, worked in franchises, corporate salons, and tried commission salons. In 2016, I decided I was ready to be on my own. I had grown a decent clientele by then and found an area I really loved the clients and the vibe of the people there. I’ve been in my loft for over 5 years now and I love working for myself and taking control of my time and services. I finally have time for more education and time for my family. Someday in the future, I’d love to open my own salon.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. I think every stylist goes through hard times in this industry. Slow weeks, difficult clients or bosses. Drama with coworkers. There are always ups and downs, but then you’ll have a day that you do something incredible, or have a client that shows their sincere appreciation for what you do, and it reignites the fire in you and keeps you coming back behind the chair..
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
So I’d like to think I am a color specialist. If I could do rainbow hair everyday I think I’d be totally fine with that. I think it’s important to find your niche and really focus on that to build the business you want. Red hair has become a favorite and what I’m known for. A lot of stylists struggle with reds, but it’s definitely my strong suit. I also specialize in men’s haircuts. I worked solely in men’s salons for 6 years before opening my loft. I offer free beverages for all my clients, but the boys get a little extra. Every cut includes a steamed towel and a neck shave.
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
I’ve lived just outside of St. Louis my whole life. More of a country girl. But I love how many great places there are to visit within the area. The Zoo, art museum, City Museum, the Aquarium. All great places for families to visit that are locals or out of towners. I’m a huge Blues fan, and we are the best hockey fans in the world, in my opinion.
