Today we’d like to introduce you to Barbara Mosher.
Hi Barbara, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers?
Art was a part of life from a young age. My formal art-related studies are fine art and Industrial Design. From there, I was a designer for General Motors both in their graphic design studio and then designing Chevrolet interiors. Having such a career and training in that discipline gave me the foundation to pursue my desire to paint, which allowed me the opportunity to create from within, without an expected result. The freedom vs the restriction was liberating.
Color lights my soul and is found in the majority of my art. Through the elements of texture combined with line and color, I create pieces that vibrate with energy,
My art is found in collections in Europe, Canada, and throughout the US.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Being an artist is exposing one’s soul to the world. For me, every piece I create comes from a feeling, thought, or experience. Judgment is common from both the outside world and our inner artists, which can easily be bruised. So yes, the negative comments or the rejection from a gallery or a show is a struggle, at times. It is a common occurrence for artists, but I am lucky to have the ability to bounce back and be resilient.
Early in my adult life after school and working for GM I had moved to a town in Texas where the most extreme event changed my life and trajectory… I had collected quite a large portfolio and collection of past works that I was extremely proud of and cherished.
One April evening that was all taken away when a tornado ripped through my studio destroyed every piece of art and thousands of dollars in artist materials were swept away or destroyed as well. Nothing could be salvaged. it was devastating and it took a few years before I was able to think creatively and began anew.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am an intuitive abstract artist. Quite often I do not have a preconceived plan as I approach the canvas. I listen to music and it may influence, or not, but what shows up as I paint is from within. My art usually is full of color and resonances and energy, that is recognizable and often commented on. My art is full of life, movement and expresses my joy in life.
While I could tell you all of the awards I have received, I prefer to be proud of the collectors and their reactions when they put my art in their homes. I often will receive a photo of it hung in their home and they tell me how much they love it. That is what I am most proud of.
What matters most to you?
Kindness, that word in itself is applicable to everything I feel strongly about. My relationships, family, friends, acquaintances, and the occasional stranger that I acknowledge among my day. Kindness to those that may not deserve it, Kindness to the towering trees I like to converse with.
