Meet Chris and Aaron Adams

Today we would like to introduce you to Chris and Aaron Adams of Adams Blood acoustic duo.

ADAMS BLOOD is an acoustic duo consisting of Chris and Aaron Adams. We are an uncle/nephew duo, thus the name ADAMS BLOOD. We pride ourselves on achieving tight vocal harmonies, along with guitar skills that make it all work….and we put in the work to get it right. We play covers from a wide variety of artists, generally classic, alternative, and grunge rock-oriented, however, we enjoy playing all genres including country, metal, indie, and anything else that a listener might appreciate. Aaron and I also front a five-piece rock band called THE MACHINES, which also plays covers and original tunes as well. We love playing music and entertaining people. It’s in our hearts, it’s in our soul, and it’s in our blood.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It took us a long time to work up enough songs to play a full gig, but once we got a solid set list, we were able to start playing out. It took about two years of practicing in the basement, but still we feel like it’s been a fairly smooth ride because Aaron and I simply love playing music together, whether it’s in the basement or playing out. Once we started playing out, the response from the people who came out to see us seemed very positive.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about what you do?
I (Chris) recently retired from a career in physical therapy after 25 years, and prior to that, I was a carpenter for 15 years and built houses. I am now pursuing a career in music, which is what I’ve always wanted to do all my life. The music industry is a competitive one, and very difficult to make a living at unless you happen to be one of the lucky few who hit it big. But, while I was raising a family and working a day job, I was still able to create the balance and play music with several different bands. When Aaron said he’d be interested in doing this duo with me, I knew it was going to be something very special. I knew he was very talented and that he could add a lot to what I was doing as a solo act. As far as what I did with my music the 45 to 50 years prior to this…well that’s a whole other story.

I (Aaron) am very proud of the career path I’ve chosen, having lived and worked in Vail, Colorado for 13 years in the luxury hospitality industry as a hotel executive as well as playing semi-professional soccer. While I was passionate about my career in hospitality and found it to be very rewarding, I felt the need to return home to St. Louis to raise my family. Since returning home, I have found a new career as a Director of Human Resources in Commercial Cleaning Industry, which has allowed me enjoy a balance in life that now includes family as well as playing music with my uncle (Chris), whom I had idolized as child and inspired me to want to believe I could be a musician. This new experience has opened up a whole new world of musical possibilities.

If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
As a child, I (Chris) grew up with 3 older brothers and 1 younger sister, so needless to say, I was never lonely. I enjoyed hanging out and playing with my brothers and sister, though there were times when we all wanted to kill each other. I was always very passionate about music. I remember standing in front of the radio and acting like I was conducting the music that was being played. I also apparently had a pretty good singing voice, which I never realized until several years later when my brother Ken told me so. I knew it must have been true coming out of his mouth because otherwise he would have never said nothing that nice to me. Ken and I started taking guitar lessons at a very early age. Ken and I stuck with it and eventually started becoming pretty good. We then started writing songs. Ken wrote the first one, then I wrote one, and it went on like that for a while like a competition. But we both agreed that both of our songs were pretty good so we started writing a lot of songs together. Ken and I played in several bands together and always prided ourselves on our ability to harmonize well together. Unfortunately, I am sorry to say that I lost my best friend, and brother, and music partner to ALS about 15 years ago. Aaron always enjoyed watching Ken, and I play our songs, and eventually, Aaron learned how to play himself and started playing some music with us. He also started writing some songs with us, and we’ve come to find out that not only could this little sucker play guitar pretty good, he could also sing and harmonize as well. Uh!…Must be in the BLOOD. Playing music with Aaron is like the memory of playing music with Ken all those years. So, I thank God every day that he decided to embark on this musical journey with me.

As a child, I (Aaron) was raised in a very loving and energetic family with four siblings (2 brothers and 2 sisters). We all played piano and were influenced by each other’s musical interest. We were very active in sports, particularly soccer, hockey, and baseball. My parents worked very hard and did everything they could to support us and give us what we needed to enjoy our childhood. Mom worked in the fitness industry as an aerobics instructor and in sales and was a talented dancer. My father (the official third member of ADAMS BLOOD as the band photographer) worked as an advertising manager for the local newspapers and later followed his passion to become a professional sports and entertainment photographer photographing a lot of big-name bands, which he continues to make a living at today. They both continue to attend almost everyone our gigs and continue to be amongst our biggest fans. Both Mom and Dad come from musically and artistically talented families, rock stars in fact. I vividly recall watching my uncle Chris, and Ken play music and always dreamed of being a part of the band. It came true for a day while on vacation in Florida in the late ’90s when they taught me to sing the third harmony on Seven Bridges Road, and that night we wrote our first song together. It was in that moment; I learned about my ability to sing and knew I wanted to be a musician. Little did I know that dream would come true.
