Meet Courtney Woolery of The Black Woodstock Foundation

Today we’d like to introduce you to Courtney Woolery.

Hi Courtney, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start, maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers.
I began my journey in 2019 after the Covid pandemic settled a bit. I knew I wanted to establish a “need-based business,” so I figured, what better way than to provide a large platform for Black-owned businesses to capitalize! I’ve managed over 300 businesses and hosted 4 successful events, including The Taste of ESTL. We want to help revitalize East Saint Louis by any means necessary.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Integrating into the Festival world has been challenging, but I’ve never strayed away from a challenge. I’ve had amazing mentors and sponsors who have held my hand through the process. I was also fortunate to receive a little “polishing” from the original Woodstock team on the East Coast. To date, we’ve acquired sponsorship from The STL Blues street team, The Illinois Department of Transportation, and Wal-Mart Superstores. Success is on the horizon, and national exposure is the goal.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about The Black Woodstock Foundation?
Our Foundation is geared toward the education and progression of businesses of color. We provide financial literacy courses, business registration, public speaking, etc.

What matters most to you?
I aim to teach others how to break generational stigmas regarding wealth in impoverished communities worldwide. These festivals, force small businesses to “level up” in terms of getting solidified and doing business The right way!
