Today we’d like to introduce you to Devon Norman. Them and their team share their story with us below:
Quebaby is a versatile artist with high and electrifying energy. A person that everyone wants to kick it with and have a good time. His music is a hip-hop, club vibe that you can’t help but sing to while dancing. QueBaby’s first upcoming album will show his versatility and upbeat energy.
Born as Devon Norman, professional name “Quebaby”, in Columbia Missouri; he grew up in Wentzville and then moved to Warrenton MO, which is where he graduated from high school in 2017. His first stage name was “Qashun”, but since no one could pronounce his middle name, he told people to just call him “Q”… He then changed to “Quebaby”, since people would say he has a babyface in 2019. Quebaby’s musical background goes back generations in his family with influences from Luther Vandross, Michael Jackson, Deion Sanders to T-Pain, Lil Wayne, and Lil Baby.
Quebaby started flirting with music at age 10 and at 11 did his first song for a girl that he had a crush on. Did he get the girl? Yes, yes, I did! From then on, he started writing music based on life experiences, things that I had gone through in High School and after. Every song is a story. My homeboy, Airk, told me that I need to take this music thing seriously, that I was good at doing it, at that time I was 100% football. Que figured being an athlete is easier than being an artist. Airk believed in my talents and that’s why I do what I do now, is for him. I wear him around my neck every day when I do my music. He is no longer with us, but I know he watches over me every day and is with me in spirit at all times.
When I write my music, I hear a beat, have my air pods in, have my smoke and a drink close by and I freestyle and lay something down. Sometimes it takes 5 minutes or could take a few weeks, but when I’m done, I am usually very happy with what I have come up with. I also like to collaborate with other artists, which is one reason why I am a versatile artist. “Keep looking out for my name, Quebaby, cause I’m coming up and want to be heard all over the world!”
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
People would be the biggest obstacle or challenge that I have come up against. Friends think that this is just a hobby for me, which it is, but it’s also my career that I working hard on. Waiting on others is a challenge sometimes, putting my career in someone else hands and having to patiently waiting. Communication is also hard because people don’t always return your call or text and that can be frustrating.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a Hip Hop/R&B artist. I’m from a small town in Missouri and you can Google me, which to me is a big deal and I am very proud of myself for that. I am most proud that I write my own music. Every song are my words and experiences and no one can take that from me, makes me one of a kind! Having my lyrics mine sets me apart. I am versatile in my music and have the drive to keep pushing myself until I feel that I have made it!
Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
The best advice I think I can give someone that is starting out would be to do your research. Look into your beats and purchase them correctly, compare prices and reviews on studios, photographers, etc. Don’t go into business with friends, they can be your supporters but not any kind of business partner. Something I wish I would have for sure wish I knew starting was more about marketing and how to drop my music. There are many different platforms in which to use, just knowing more about them would have helped a lot. Knowing who your true friends are from the get-go, the ones that are going to support and encourage me is something to figure out from day one.
