Today we’d like to introduce you to Jenn Meyers.
Hi Jenn, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
In high school, I took a photojournalism class as an elective and found that I actually had an eye for composition, color, and was impressed with my own work. I never considered photography as a hobby before this, but afterwards, I was hooked. When the class ended, I saved up my babysitting money to purchase my own beginner SLR camera. In order to practice, I began enlisting my friends to model for me and thus Jenn Takes Pictures was born.
I have now been shooting for over 10 years and offer a wide variety of services, including senior/graduation photos, families, engagement, elopement and weddings, and branding/editorial portraits.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I try and reflect on my past struggles and mistakes as opportunities for growth. When I was younger, I wanted to be perfect and often felt defeated when comparing myself to other artists. Now that I have been in the business a while though, I have come to realize I will never be perfect and that is just part of the journey! If we easily reached perfection in our skill and style, art would be incredibly boring. We are meant to practice, experiment, learn from mistakes, find our strengths and weaknesses, change our style, etc. It’s a forever-growing process. I am proud of my journey and look forward to continuing learning.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a photographer and digital editor focused mostly in portrait work. My favorite types of shoots are senior/graduation photos, families, engagement, editorial/fashion, and especially elopements and weddings. I strive to blend traditional images and unique shots for my clients, to ensure they have a wide variety of photos that feel truly one-of-a-kind to them. In the end, my goal is to make people feel beautiful, confident, and reflect who they truly are. That’s my favorite part of the job!
Something that sets me apart is that I am open-minded to all creative work and down to try most things. Want photos of you levitating? I can do that. A t-rex chasing your wedding party? Done.
