Meet Kathryn Owens of University City

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kathryn Owens.

Kathryn Owens

Hi Kathryn, I’m so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work life, how can you bring our readers up to speed on your story? How did you get to where you are today?
Hello! I’m Kathryn. I am a Marketing major seeking a BSBA with a minor in Spanish and Arabic languages from Washington University in St. Louis. I make user-generated content and advertisements for beauty, fashion, and lifestyle brands through my social media (@_kathryn.owens_ on Instagram and TikTok).

We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Social media influence includes a lot of trial and error. Sometimes, you think you’ve made your best content, and the videos don’t perform as well as you hoped. Sometimes, a sponsor wants you to redo something or a package gets stolen. Many things can go wrong, but it’s essential to communicate with your partners and be as reliable as possible.

Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I love making user-generated content because what I promote is entirely my choice. I get to tell people about my favorite products, make money, or get gifts. It’s a fantastic use of my time, and the experience teaches me a lot about social media advertising.

Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
Accountability. Only some videos I make will be perfect; sometimes, setbacks hinder delivering a video on time. Talking to your partners about what’s happening and being honest is essential. Telling the truth will get you far in an industry of smoke and mirrors.
