Meet Keith Brake

Today we’d like to introduce you to Keith Brake.

Hi Keith, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I bought my first camera to photograph my daughter’s graduation. I fell in love with the idea of photography and went on to shoot hundreds of concerts and made that my focus. From there, I started shooting promos for STL and southern IL musicians networking and making friends along the way. Late last year, I opened KBP Studios and have had the distinct pleasure to work with some very talented musicians and models.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
There have been challenges, of course. First off, the STL area is loaded with amazingly talented photographers, so it is a challenge in and of itself to even be noticed. Networking and making the proper connections is always a challenge but I have done “OK” in that regard. Of course, opening a studio in a pandemic also offered some challenges, as you may imagine.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I specialize and focus on capturing other creatives. I love to collaborate with creative people and capture amazing images that result in that collaboration. I do not try to mimic any style or plan for any shoot. I like to chat with my clients and get to know them as it is my mission to capture the real person… not something super formal that kills the vibe or mood. My style is not “typical,” and I am good with that and my clients seem to be as well. Of course, I do all sorts of shoots but my passion lies in collaborating with creatives.

So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
Satisfaction of my clients is paramount. If someone brings a shoot to me that I know does not suit my style or that I know someone else would do better, I will pass them along to that other photographer. Photography is subjective; if someone has a specific idea that I know I will struggle with, I will pass. My clients deserve the best as their time and money are most valuable to them.

Most of my clients show up with no plans but rather, we shoot what happens organically. Sure, we may have certain outfits in mind but rarely anything ever set in stone.
