Meet Kristen Bergmann

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kristen Bergmann.

Hi Kristen, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I was kind of a late bloomer. I didn’t go to cosmetology school until I was 32. I went on to work at a nice salon in Ladue, but I soon realized that I wanted to work for myself. I didn’t like someone else telling me how and when I needed to work. I wanted to set my own rules.

So, I did. I broke off and started doing hair for myself. When Covid hit I made the decision to put everything on hold and stay home with my children. Like so many other parents last year, I found myself teaching two elementary students. It wasn’t long before I started going stir crazy and took up painting as a stress reliever.

I quickly fell in love with the art. At first, I only painted dogs. Not really sure why, but it was how I spent quarantine. Since then, I have found new subjects to paint. It is my greatest passion. I now fill my days with all of my favorite things, my family, hair, tarot, and painting. When you let go of other people’s expectations of you, the possibilities are endless.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It was not a smooth road. There are always bumps along the way and lessons to be learned. I have not been an exception to that rule. I had always been interested in doing hair but I let life get in the way. I made so many excuses to put my dreams on hold.

I always thought I had to fit into a certain mold, that I had to do things a certain way in order to succeed. It seems silly now. Once I started paving my own way it got a lot easier. Life is way too short to not surround yourself with what you love. Hairstyling is a lifelong learning process. It is always evolving. Always changing. Just like me.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I love being a hairstylist, being an artist. Color is my specialty. I guess that is why it was so easy for me to switch to painting on a canvas during quarantine. Painting is such a personal thing for me. I pour so much of myself into my art. It doesn’t matter if it is your hair or a portrait of your favorite pet. I will put me all into it. I am a manifestor, a creator.

Nothing makes me happier than making something totally unique for each client. My use of bold, vibrant colors is applicable to both my hair and portrait art. I think that is what has people coming back to me. I’m pretty easy to talk to and I believe that the universe puts certain people in my path for a reason.

I also practice Tarot and you can get a reading while I color your hair, if you’re interested. I just want to be happy and help others feel the same way.

What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
It feels like Covid changed everything. I no longer have time for the things that stress me out. I am focusing on the beauty of life. Finding the people and the things that bring me peace. I will continue to grow as a hairstylist and help my clients feel beautiful in their own skin.

You can always find me at Cut N Dye Salon. I’m ready to color your hair. Over the next few years, I plan to break into the art community more. Art Galleries and Fairs. Bringing more of my creative flow to my everyday life. It is what gives me the most joy.
